Did LIweddings make you spend more $?

Original post by MrsLarrea2B

So I was thinking about when FH and I first got engaged. I remember me saying that I would never spend more $ for a Saturday night wedding, will not be doing favors, will go cheap on invitations, get all low CP, No VH, and get an affordable dress, will not have anymore than 150 people (max)...

and I was actually doing good at first...until Liweddings became my life and I begn to look at all the pretty stuff everyone else has.lol. All of a sudden the 'unecessary' became a 'must'. lol.
I swear I never thought that picking invitations, bridesmaid dresses, etc. would take me months to figure out. I have gone back on my word on almost everything!

Anyone else in the same boat?

i actually think its done the opposite for me... ive been able to win some of my vendors at TWOTY and others ive been able to get inexpensively bc i would only have known about em through this site... the bigger ticket items i def saved on but i did spurlge on placecard frames that werent necessary and table name photos that arent needed, etc etc

As I remind FH all the time: it has saved us money!!

I always tell vendors I am on here constantly, even if they aren't an official vendor here, if they know I will talk them up on here they see it as an investment and offter discounts/freebies.

Plus the links to coupons/discounts, post-wedding sales, reminders of etsy, ebay...

thank you LIW!!!1

No, I don't not for me personally. DH and I had ideas about how much we wanted to spend for each line item and tried to stay in those guidelines.

It's definitely easy to get caught up in a lot of 'extras' on any wedding Web site. The great thing that LI Weddings helped us out with is identifying great vendors in the first place. We're OOT and LIW helped IMMENSELY.

I wouldnt say it made me or will make me spend more its just opening up my mind to try different things. THis is the first wedding ever that i will be apart of. I never knew what an std's were, viennesse table, bm's gifts, props as far as taking pictures, things that will make my wedding be more special and look 100 x better...also the card box hahahaha thanks LI wedding girls for that

Actually NO they made me spend less.... At first I found the really great ideas and stuff here and thought ok here goes another $5,000 but then I found the DIY Board and did it all myself saving a TON of money. Matter of fact if it hadn't been for LIW my wedding would of not happened at all due to me being out of work and at that time I had never thought of DIYing stuff.

I'm hoping inthe end it will help me save money! Before this site, I didnt know I could have DIY invites, CPs, bo-ks, etc. So now, I'm gonna try those and see if I can save money!

I would have to say no. The site and the ladies gave me some really great ideas. The reviews and vendor recommendations were very helpful.

I knew how I wanted my wedding to be before I joined and worked really hard to get the best possible deals I could to keep me on budget. I eliminated things that I felt were unimportant (slipper baskets, OOT giftbags, favors, bathroom baskets, programs, etc.) and didn't feel that it was necessary to spend extra money on them.

I didn't use LIW vendors, I went with everything that I had already booked prior to finding LIW.
I did however, find Thomas Knoell from posting on the boards and probably could of saved on the headpiece, but no regrets there. Now I have something to pass along.

i don't think i'm TOO guilty of this. FH knows that I'm not really a 'materialistic' person, but i did tell him when we first got engaged that my wedding is important to me. I had begun planning it when I was 15 years old! lol. But I also understood that it's ridiculous to spend soo much money on one night that could have been used on a house. So i definitely stuck with what I knew we could afford. It's more than I had originally thought when we first got engaged, but definitely not bad! I think LIW did inspire a couple of my purchases. FH is soooo proud of me tho! And it's basically going to be my dream wedding anyhow

being on LIW has put things into perspective for me. the girls on the boards help me to realize that although it is the most important day of my life in the end its being married that really matters the most. the girls on here have also helped me to learn that people r in the same boat as me. (being a student, working part time). i honestly think that liw will help me save money in the end.

Re: Did LIweddings make you spend more $?

Actually, LIW helped me spend less!!!

I've always been crafty but wasn't aware of just how much I could DIY for less $ but still make it look until I saw projects on here and was totally inspired.

Also, I collected suggestions from other budget brides and was able to create a lot of my own items for our wedding just by following DIY directions and asking a bunch of questions. I downloaded free templates and specialty fonts, and spent a lot of time with my FH on the couch watching TV at night while working on my DIY projects.

I've always used the coupons for AC Moore and Michael's, but LIW was where I learned the value of printing off a bunch of them to use one each day on my way home from work to collect enough of everything I needed for my DIY CPs. Thanks to that advice, I actually saved HALF of what I would've spent if I paid full price at these stores. And if I went with regular floral CPs, I would've spent 7-8x that amount.

The Brides on a Budget threads were extremely helpful to me.

And mentioning LIW to one of my vendors got us a 10% discount too!!
