Did ur FH?

ask your dad's permission? MY dad (who I'm not close with) is mad that FH didn't ask his permission, just wondering if any one still does that?

Mine did. 1st my family knew before. My mom and I work in the jewelry industry and I threatened him if he did not use her sources. But he took my mom and dad and brother out to dinner when I was oot. And asked them all. But the fact that you are not close with you dad could be the reason he didn't ask.

FH asked my Dad for permission. I wanted him to do that but he said he would have regardless - I guess we're traditional.

I know, so does FH, but this man that really isn't a part of our lives is angry now? ... uggh he always knows how to bring me down, so I won't let him!

Listen don't let anyone bring you down!!! I mean I'm sure you've been upset other times in your life especially since your dad isn't really a part of it. I know it's hard sometimes but this is one of the happiest times of your life!!! No one not even your dad should make you feel bad!!! Here are some hugs to cheer you up!!!

He asked both of my parents - he spoke with them before he got my ring - then he told them when he picked up my ring...he wasnt sure when he was going to do it but they new it was coming -

My FH did not. My Dad is a lecturer and although I wanted him to, he didn't because he didn't want to sit there and hear my father. That, and the fact that my dad is a little bit of a psychopath. I felt bad putting him up against my father although I wanted him to because I know that he wouldve blown the socks off my dad.

I know a lot of people still do this. Fh didn't, he knows I'm not close to my dad at all so I really didn't care if he did anyway.

FH and I discussed this from the beginning. So I knew he would ask but he did tell me that if they said no he still would have asked because they don't have to like him I do. And I DO!!! He did it because he is old fashioned. AGain I would try not to stress over it.

Jeff asked my dad's permission, and my brother's actually (which I thought was kind of wierd... I've never heard that before), but not because I wanted him to - because he wanted to and thought it was the right thing to do. He's very traditional like that sometimes. Now that I think about it though, I'm glad he did - I sort of felt like 'I don't need my dad's permission, I'm going to marry whomever I want, he doesn't own me,' but in the end my dad loves me and he would have felt kind of hurt had he not been asked.

The one thing I did insist was that I be the one to tell my mother. That was just really important to me.

However, I am extremely close to my family, and I have a good relationship with both my mom and my dad, so it makes sense for me. If you don't have a good relationship with your dad and he's not really an active part of your life, then that's a totally different story... then I'm not so sure he has a right to be upset. But I don't know your story, so I can't judge.

Yep he asked my parents. My mom dropped the hint that she expected it done way before he proposed, I thought it was funny at that time, but now I think it's sweet that he did.

My Fh tried too. The night he proposed he came to my house early to talk to my parents but then I walked through the door. So he didnt get a chance too.

My parents didnt mind though, they really like my FH and they knew it was coming eventually.

yes my FH asked my dad. he asked him a few months before (bc my parents live in florida) and he wanted to ask my dad in person. to me, that was important...and im sure it meant alot to my dad also.

My FH did but I think that asking for a blessing/permission completely depends on your situation.
Don't worry about it. You said yes, isn't that all that really matters?!

my FH did--but there were a few reasons...i still live with my parents...i'm the youngest of 7 kids, and my other siblings never had actual big weddings. my dad has never walked one of his 5 daughters down the aisle, and never really got to experience the whole traditional approach to it all. i have to admit i'm a little bit of a 'daddy's girl', so when FH and i started talking about marriage, i let him know that i wanted him to tell my father of his intentions. he agreed.

one sunday he went to my dad's office early, before he opened, and before my mom got there. he then came right out with, 'Sir, I want to marry you daughter, and I wanted to make sure you I came to you first.' My father talked to him about marriage...and then my mom arrived at the office and spoke with them both together.

Don't let your dad sour on all this!! If he'd not that much in your life, he's probably just trying to stir the 'drama' pot!

p.s.--almost forgot, FH asked my brother's blessing too!
