Re: Did you put any pressure on your fi?
Kinda. When we got serious, I told him after 5 years I would need to know where the relationship was going. Well, after 5 years I still didnt know anything. So I planned and extravagant 'girls only vacation' to St Martin, and I let it slip out that I needed it to get over my planned breakup with him. Word got back and he started talking about marriage weeks before the vacation. After I came back, he proposed.

I am kind of at that point now..we have been together for 3 years, living together for 2... kinda feel that if he doesnt want this to b 4ever then let me know now so i dont spend 10 yrs of my life with someone who is basically playing games. i told him straight out that he needs to think about what he wants from this relationship b/c i know i want to marry him if he doesnt want that as well then he needs to let me know so i can move on. if a relationship doesnt progress then eventually is stales and dies in my opinion..

Re: Did you put any pressure on your fi?
I'm going to be honest here.. I did a little, because I moved here to Georgia, with only him, and after 1 yr and a half of living together, and 2 1/2 years of being together, I was ready, I didn't give him an ultamatum or anything, I just asked him, why he wasn't ready?? And he would keep saying I am ready, then come to find out, he asked my parents like 6 months before he actually proposed, everyone was waiting for him to do it.. I should of just kept my mouth shut.. I was just excited and in love, but he had to wait for the ring to be ready etc.

This is us! Before me, FH was a 'i'm never getting married' type of guy ..
Though when we moved in together (after only 5 months of dating), I definitely had a feeling we'd be heading towards marriage .. I still didn't think he'd pop the question as soon as he did , but I was definitely thrilled! (and shocked!)

Yep. I was a real PITA.
I feel bad about it, too. It wasn't like he didn't want to, it was a money issue.
Yeah, I know, I stink.

Re: Did you put any pressure on your fi?
It was a money issue.. He wanted me to have the ring, I wanted.. and I wasn't annoying but I did question why he hadn't done it yet.. I wished I would of just shut up.. But I WAS SO SURPRISED!!!!! It was all part of his little surprise/scam.. LOL
OMG! YES! We were together for 2 years when we moved in together and it tok him another 4 years to propose. It was the base of all our arguements. I thought about leaving him so many times because I thought he didnt plan on making us long term. But I am glad I waited it out!

I can admit it this was me!!! Poor FH! But really he brought it on himself the way I think of it. He dropped hints after we were dating for just under 2 years. Then NYE 2002 he told me this was the year...well 2002 came and went! Finally July 2003. I knew he wanted to marry me but what worried me was what was holding him back, I knew it wasnt a money issue. It turned out, he was just nervous, we are teh first of our friends to get married and I think he was just holding on to his bachelorhood!!! So after 4 years of dating he finally popped the question!
I did tell him that I wasnt waiting 5 years! I figured if he couldnt figure it out by then, then he was never going to figure it out!!!

Nope....He was always saying he was going to propose on our 1 year anniversary, and I never believed him. 2 days before our anniversary, he proposed! I was SHOCKED.

It was a complete surprise. We had talked about it a while back, and he couldn't even say marriage without sweating, so I just let it go.

Not at all - I knew it was coming sometime - and I didnt want to pressure him. I knew I would marry him someday and I wasnt in any kind of hurry. When it happened, I was totally suprised!

We were a couple months away from the five year mark and we decided mutually that this would be the next step. I didn't bug him about though cause he was in the process of getting masters..We were engaged before I received 'the ring'..So it really wasn't a surprise.

We had talked about it. I had asked last year, well when is this going to happen? He said probably next year he'd get me a ring, and I was like, alright. But he had just said that to throw me off track b/c he proposed that summer.

Hell Ya! We weren't getting younger.
After our 3rd year anniversary I started to remove my ring that I used to wear on that finger and rub my bare hand over his cheek and say 'Do you feel anything?' 'Nope, me either.. wonder why'
In 2002 I started wearing a ring over on that hand and told him it was to 'prep for an engagement ring that should be coming, getting used to the weight'
The actually engagement proposal was a surprise though. Apparently he needed no real pressure, but how was I to know?

Re: Did you put any pressure on your fi?
I did put a little pressure on my man. I wanted it so bad. But when he propsed I really didn't know it was coming. He proposed December 12th. I thought maybe for my brithday in March or possibly for Valentine's day...but I thought those dates were too soon! I was so happy he did it when he did. It was amazing!

Re: Did you put any pressure on your fi?
After realizing (the hard way) that ultimatums don't work and pressuring a guy to propose sometimes results in the girl getting the exact OPPOSITE response, I promised myself never to do that again. So with my FH, when we got serious, I told him my expectations and timeframe for having kids, etc. and then I never said another word about it. I am extremely independent and I think he knew that although I loved him, I'd move on. And he actually surprised me with a ring even sooner than I expected!
