I knew it would only be a matter of time for it to happen. We had just moved in together a month and a half before he proposed. Although when it finally happened, I was completely surprised! NO IDEA!!!!

nah....he told me to pick out rings.
he didn't think i'd just pick one...he thought i'd pick several and he could pick the one...but after i found my ring, i stopped looking..i just knew...just like when i knew i had fallen for him.

Not totally surprised.
We went ring shopping so he could get an idea of what I liked. I was not supposed to know much more than that but we both fell in love with a very unique setting. I wasn't sure if he was going to order it b/c the setting alone was much more $ than the others that we saw. We didn't want to talk about it much further but we'd bring it up once in a while.
The day we got engaged, I knew it was coming soon. However, I thought that he was trying to trick me into thinking that was going to be that day and I was even annoyed that he might be doing that (going to Fire Island in the middle of winter, hmmmm). But that really was the day we got engaged. In the snow at the beach!

I told everyone I thought he'd do it on 9/24/04, but thought maybe he was throwing me off the track by everything pointing to that day. He actually did it that day. I was still shocked when he took out the ring. I believe it's how they do it, not when. It was awesome!

The actual ring?? Nope, not at all.
The proposal - sort of. About a month after we started dating he asked what kind of diamond I liked (hint # 1), then a few days before I left for a month long vacation to Australia he called me his wife (hint # 2), then when I got back we started discussing a wedding, picked a date, figured out how much it would cost and the guest list etc (hint # 3), then after that conversation was over he said 'oh, by the way, will you marry me?'

I had no clue, but we were dating for almost 6 years at the time and I had just graduated college so I thought it maybe be coming soon, but not as soon as he planned!

Heck yes only because he told me and everyone that we know that he would NEVER propose on a Holiday. We got engaged on Christmas. I totally did not expect it at all!!! He tricked me!!!

i knew it was coming because we went ring shopping a few months before, but i had no idea the day he did it. he completely shocked me, he planned all kinds of decoys and i fell for all of them...sneaky man....

I knew he bought the ring, but when he actually proposed was a surprise... His best friend died the month before he proposed, and he was still in mourning, so I was NOT expecting a proposal until after he felt better - but he did and it was so wonderful - he felt he didnt want to wait another minue for anything ever again!

I knew it was coming but not at the time it did, I was actually shocked. He completely caught me off guard being he proposed at like 9 in the morning which was minutes after we woke up!

Not really, he asked me to move in and i said no unless we get engaged, so he promised me it woud be soon, so i moved in, we were both living on our own so it helped with saving money, then i told him if he didn't propose by my birthday we would need to sit down and talk ( i wouldn't have broken up with him but just to see were he was at) two days before my birthday he proposed.
Did i know that day, yes cause he was acting weird, but i still loved it, and he tried to make it as romantic as he could, a carriage ride through central park,

Not really when I got the ring - we went and had it designed together...BUT the day he asked if I wanted to go look at rings was a shock because we just bought a house and discussed getting engaged. We decided we would wait at least a year because we didn't have any money left. Little did I know, he had some

It wasn't a surprise - we've been together for eight years and we both knew we wanted to marry each other. Had talked about it before.
I even had an inkling it would be the day that it was b/c FH was acting strange. BUT, I was thrown off when - in terms of the time of day it was - when it happened. It was our 8 year anniversary so I thought it could be a possibliity, but it happened during the work day. I thought I was going somewhere on business but I was going to get proposed to!

Ditto Totally got me off guard. We had been together about 3 years. Popped the question while we were visiting my home town (San Antonio) to see my grandfather who was dying. My parents had joined us there (drove in from Iowa) so I was able to share it with them
He got the ring but it wasn't sized..hehehe he was in such a rush to get it before we went away.
i had it sized while we were there

mine was a little of a supurise. i was with when DH got the ring, i picked it out but it had to be resized so i didn't know when he was getting it in and when he was going to ask but i knew that it was close!!

I was soooooo shocked!!!! I had been expecting one for a while (since he came back form Iraq). He had my mom in on it and she convinced me he wasn't ready yet. The day we got engaged I did not even want to go out cause I had been sooo sick but my mom was like just go. I was completely in shock and I couldn't have asked for it any other way!
