I looked at the websites of a few different DJs. Can I please have some opinions on using one dj as opposed to one dj and one mc? Also, who is everyone using and how much have you paid? What, or who, should I avoid? Thanks so much! Becky

I am using DJs Unlimited. I'm paying around 1200 for DJ/MC - 5 hour coverage and basic lighting package. We opted to have the DJ/MC, so the DJ only has to worry about music, while the MC is completely responsible for keeping the party going...good luck!

Variety DJ is charging an additional $175. for the 1/2 hr ceromony and $150. for the cocktail hr. The Metropolitan is ALL open from the balcony above where the DJ sets up behind the bar..When I mentioned that to 'ONE OF THE MC'S hesaid..THEN HAVE THEM PIPE IN CLASSICAL MUSIC OVER THE SPEAKERS...What do you think ladies what should be my response when we see them to finalize the wedding plans??

We used Dancejock. We paid between $3200-$3500 (I can't remember exactly) and got the DJ, Emcee, steel drum band, singer, percussionist, and 2 screens with digital photos of our reception shown throughout the night. We were extremely happy with the service and staff.

We will be using Spin Around Sound and paying about $1400 for 5 hours. We will have Rob as both our DJ and MC since we wanted very minimal MCing. They have several other package (some more some less depending on what you want). My Aunt/Uncle used them last year and we had a great time at their wedding so I'm confident that they will do a great job, and they have been great to work with so far. Good luck with your planning.

We didn't use him yet. I called 2 of the places where he is one of the house DJs (Sans Souci and Three Village Inn) and got great references by the banquet managers, so I trust that he'll be good. We don't want all of the extras, just want the music and someone who can announce a few things here and there. I've spoken to him a few times, he also works at WABC radio. A few other brides here mentioned booking him too.

DJ Joey is doing the MC-ing for me as well. Is that a good idea?

Some people would rather have an MC and a DJ, so they can each concentrate on one thing. This is not as important to us, since we don't want many of the usual party songs/dances (conga line, macarena, etc.), we are not doing a boquet toss, parent dances, garter, no bridal party to be introduced. Based on other weddings, our families are going to dance and party no matter what. So we really only need him to announce a few things (our entrance, first dance, toast) and mainly play music. If you want more, ask him about having an MC too.

We used Eddie Terryn of Parameters .. he was our DJ/MC. He handled everything great. He did bring an assistant, but that was more for assistance with setting up, packing up, and for distributing the give-aways that we had. Maybe the assistant did more, but Eddie did all the music and MCing, and we truly felt he ran everything smoothly. I guess it can sometimes be like the saying 'too many cooks in the kitchen.' That`s not a knock against having a seperate DJ and MC, it`s just an endorsement for how the job can be done by a single person.
