Need to get an idea of how much DJ's cost. Can you please let me know the company you used, and price ranges? I also have a mix of older and younger guests, so I want someone who will play ALL types of music. Especially the stuff we put on our list. (Is it really true that they take the list and don't play the songs you want anyway)? I also DO NOT want the chicken dance, macarena, electric slide....etc. Can you also explain to me about emcees? I don't want someone who is going to make it a one man show. I would like him/her to just announce the things that need announcing...first dance, cake cutting...etc. Are there DJ's that do their own emceeing? Or do they have to come as a troupe? Any info is greatly appreciated!

I am using Dance Jock. Through them I am getting ceremony music, DJ and Emcee, percussionist and the video screens. They start at $1600 for a basic package.

My DJ was a former club DJ in Manhattan. He gave me a list of emails of former clients and I got in touch with them and every single one wrote me back that he made the night all about the music and not his own agenda.
He doesn't do give-aways, no light shows, no crazy MC talk...just does announcements in a tasteful manner and plays what you want.
DJ Gaza is his name - Gary Hoffman! When you meet with him - he gives you 5 cd's so that you can see how he blends songs together while still keeping the music going. One of them is permanently in my car and i listen almost every day!

We had Pete from High Voltage and his work fits the description of what you want perfectly. High Voltage will do 1 man combined MC/DJ and play your request list or as much as possible to fit in with your crowd. they are reasonable in price too. BTW if you have a mixed crowd, you might want to rethink the electric slide and chicken dance. I was told that the dance floor was the most crowded at my wedding for these 2 numbers! and that's with an older crowd.

I am also starting the dj search and am getting very overwhelmed. I hate any line dancing of the sort - I am with you. And I can not stand obtrusive DJ's that make bad jokes and try to bring people on the dance floor. I just want a good dj with great mixes. I live in NYC and my wedding is going to be in Manhattan. Any other suggestions. I see they are pricier than expected, I guess you get what you pay for.

DJ is Latin Brothers Entertainment. I have been to two weddings where they DJ'ed and they are amazing! Great music...nut not a one man show! Their basic package is $950 but we are spending a little more for extra lighting. We did n't want too much of the tradtional wedding songs also (MAcarena, chix dance)...and they prefer not to play it either. But you design what you would like and they will do it. Well worth the money :)

I am using Steven Charles Entertainment. I liked him b/c he said he will tailor his MCing to the bride and groom. Plus he showed us a bunch of different clips from weddings- some where they wanted an over the top MC and some where they wanted it low key. I believe his packages ranged from 1100-1500 depending upon lights etc.
