Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

Do I need a day of coordinator? I've been thinking about it and think it would be nice to have someone to rely on.

What sort of price range does someone like that go for? Where do I find one? How much contact before the day of the wedding would I have with him/her?

Any suggestions / advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Hope everyone's having a great weekend & TIA!!

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

Day of coordinator is def. luxury to have. If it is in your budget to have one then I say to go for it. It will take any stress off you on the day of. Prices go from 500 & up from what I have seen!

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

I have medical issues that are complicated by stress so a DOC was a must for me.

However, I have mixed feelings about whether or not one is really necessary.

If you are super busy and do not have a lot of family help then I would definately get one if you can afford it.

But, if you have a few trusted family members or close friends who can oversee things on the day of, then you might not need one.

Two that I would personally recommend are:

Gina from Bleu Diamond Events and Ryan from Above and Beyond Events.

HTH!

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

I have to agree with one of the above posters, that a DOC is definitely a luxury, but not a necessity. I think if you're very worried about the stress and it would be worth the money for you, then go for it. But I'm sure you'd be fine without one.

For me - I just basically had somebody for the ceremony who kind of told us when to go in, dealt with the limo, and got things ready for us. (she's been called the Wedding Nazi by many past brides, because you don't wanna mess with her!!! lol. But she was oh so wonderful) She helped us out a lot. But afterwards I didn't really need one. We had a Wedding Attendant though that the RH provided who was like my bestfriend that day. lol. She did everything for us. I know that i would not have needed any more than that.

I don't think you need a DOC but if you want one and its in your budget then that is a bit of stress taken off. its not a necessity though, its a luxury.

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

Thank you for all your advice!

I have been getting so stressed lately just because I'm doing all the planning myself, and I was thinking 'who's going to set up the table cards?' and 'who's going to put out the favors?' and the idea that I'm going to have to do it ALL myself started to make me queasy. I just don't know how I'm going to enjoy the day if I have to worry about every little detail.

Is that was a DOC does? Or am I forgetting someone who would be doing this stuff? My mom can't do it because she's on dialysis and I can't ask her to exert too much energy even before the day starts.

You won't have to do any of this by yourself at all! The RH will have everything all set up for you. I did not have a DOC, nor did I feel I needed one. My maitre'd and bridal attendant were more than on top of everything. As others have already said, it's a luxury, not a neccessity.

Oh thank goodness!!

I guess I should really call my RH and talk to them about these concerns before I go and spend money I totally don't need to spend. I didn't know what a maitre'd does -- I thought they just deal with the catering. I should find out if there's a bridal attendant (I don't remember because I never thought about it before).

I guess sometimes planning your wedding in 6 months without ever prepping or researching before hand means you really just don't know... thank goodness for your help to help with my learning curve!! TYSM!!!

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

I think they are needed when you are having youre wedding a the type of place where you are using the space and bringing in all the vendors and catering. Or like you are having an outdoor wedding and have to worry about tent and table rentals. If you are using a catering hall then I don't think it is as neccessary. It depends on the type of wedding IMO. My sister had an outdoor wedding and had a coordinator and basically she ahd to have one. My wedding was at a hall. we didn't have a need for a coordinator.

a lot of the things you mentioned are things the catering hall takes care of. Rather than worrying about it, maybe give them a call and make sure before hiring someone.

Re: Do I need a Day of Coordinator?

I don't think you need a DOC especially if you are just at the RH, but for me it made sense. I also researched alot.

I am having a mass and then to the RH.
I am OOT and most of my BP is OOT (like AUST and AR, plus across the US). .FH family is OOT. Bascially, ALOT of OOT guests (hopefuly!). I really want to not stress and i have a tight timeline. I don't want to be the person people go to with problems. I prob don't need a DOC for the whole day. but definitely before the cermony and though to the reception to make me less stressed. Its more of a safety net for me and I don't want my mom to stress.

It boils down to budget and then personal preference. There is a wide range of cost and personalities need to mesh.

FM me with any questions!!
