Do it yourself PVC fencing?

Do it yourself PVC fencing?

Hi everyone,
Have any of you ever installed PVC fencing yourself instead of having it done professionally? The back and side of our yard was fenced with stockade when we moved in, but we are getting a dog soon and we would like to close of the other side of the yard with a nice PVC privacy fence. Our house is on a corner, so we are only looking to close up the open spaceto the left of the house to meet the dividing line bw our neighbors house. (It's an L-shaped area) My husband and father in law said they could do this on their own since it's a pretty small area BUT they've never installed PVC fencing before! :) I know it will save us lots of money just having it done ourselves, but I'm not sure how easy or difficult it would be for novice fence builders and I can't help but be a little wary about how it will look.... Has anyone else ever done this, and if so, what was your experience with it? I'd personally have it done by a professional, but these two are determined to tackle it.... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

thanks - I know, PVC is so expensive! But, I guess since you're saving all the trouble of maintenance and painting, etc. it's more cost effective thant the less expensive wood fences. I really hope they can handle it, and it's not just thier egos talking!! it's only a 90 angle of the yard that needs it - how much damage could they possibly do with that? :) We should be starting this soon, so I'll keep you posted on how it turns out!

Definitely let me know how it goes. We need 110 ft. !! Too much for DH to attempt. LOL.

Good luck. I can't wait to hear how it goes. Hubby is considering this as well maybe in the fall.

Our fence is getting put in tomorrow I am so excited. We have been waiting 2 months.

Anyway we opted to go with stockade around the back ( we are right next door to a Town of Oyster bay pocket park) and we are getting PVC in the front. So when people drive by it looks pretty.

It was cheaper to go that route. IF we were to get PVC all around it would of been very expensive.

About how many ft. do you need?

Re: Do it yourself PVC fencing?

good morning everyone :)

So last night DH and I measured the area we'd be fencing with PVC and its about 52 feet, give or take a few inches. We've been researching websites and looking at the Pennysaver ads for prices, and so far, the average price for PVC seems to run about $22 - $27 per foot. The cheaper price was a do-it-yourself deal though - and after showing Craig all the installation manuals I printed out on PVC fencing, we both decided it would be easier having this done by a professional :) Even though it costs more, the time and effort we'll be saving by having a pro handle it is just priceless. Plus, we'd have to rent a bunch of stuff, buy concrete, etc... It's much easier letting someone handle who actually knows what they're doing :)
I'm calling 4 places today for estimates - so far I've heard good things about Rose Fence (in Bellmore I think?) and Carl's Fence, and I'm also calling North Shore Fence and Suffolk Co. Deck & Fence. I'm hoping that since we're only fencing such a small area that the cost won't be too crazy - this stuff is so expensive though!
Well, I'll let you all know what I come up with, wish me luck!

Ours is $5000 **gasp** for 110 ft. of 6' fence w/ 2 double driveway gates and another gate in the front. I love it but it is sooooooo expensive.

Re: Do it yourself PVC fencing?

OK, here's my update! :)

Rose Fence & Suffolk County deck and Fence would not give estimates over the phone! Inconvienent, but we might just visit Rose fence since we've heard good things abotu them and they're close to us.

North Shore Fence gave us an estimate of 1800 for 5' privacy PVC with latice top and gate - not too bad!

Carl's Fence - wanted over 2K for the same thing!! Craig said the guy was kinda rude when he called too, so NO THANK YOU!

So that's what I've got so far. We like the price from North Shore Fence the best so far, and we spoke with Ken who was very nice and knew what he was talking about. Still have a few more place to call before we decide though, but I just wanted to update :) Stay tuned!!
