Do people usually wait till the last minute to buy a gift for your shower? - kind of depressed..

I know my shower is this Saturday and I've been peeking at my registry. There is barely anything bought from it and it's really bumming me out. I have a feeling that because the invitations went out kind of late a lot of people probably won't be coming to the shower. I'm really not feeling that excited about it right now cause I'm afraid there's going to be nobody but immediate family there.
Are people maybe just waiting till the last minute?? There's so much stuff on our registry that we need because we've bought a house and have NOTHING. I'm afraid we're gonna have to be going out to get it all ourselves and we're broke!!

I work at BBB and people always come in the day before or even the day OF THE SHOWER to get a gift and then they complain there is nothing left lol. I do see it alot tho! people dont wanna keep it around the house and it get damaged so they wait as long as they can!
