OMG! I just cannot believe how many people think they should say 'I don't like that' or 'I like XX better than XX' when they ask you 'What are you naming the baby?' I know a lot of people have problems with this so we have a rule 'We have no idea yet' is our answer. I just ran off 5 or 6 names I liked to my parents one day (yes, I am dumb!) and my stepmom complained to my sister that she hates all of the names! And during my 1 second run-down she said 'Yuck' 'That's awful' and 'I guess Adam is not too bad'. ***?

Michele Why on earth are you surprised by this?? Your stepmom of all people was bound to have something to say about ANYTHING you do. I am just shocked that you said anything.

We don't have a name picked out yet, for a boy or a girl ! Everyone has an opinion, though.
We really have to work on this!! EEK!!

Re: Do you discuss name choses with people?
I got that with names I like!! I'm into the REALLY Irish names. And people who aren't Irish cringe. Hell even the Irish people sometimes cringe!
I said over & over if I ever had a boy I'd name him Dermott. My Fi didn't mind it to much. But after some backlash from people he decided it was a big no. Then I wanted my last name. And that was another veto. (it's Patricks middle name) We decided on Patrick after John's dad. And truth be told he is SUCH A PATRICK!! Though 10 min before Patrick was born FH asked 'What if we name him Padraig?' (Gaelic for Patrick) I said I like it then he just said NAAAAAAAAh.
You might have a name in your head look at your newborn & go 'Oh No...that's not their name'

Tracy- I love Dermott!! I dont think DH would go for it b/c we know a Dermott and that's how he vetoed the name Troy on me. I think I did the same with a few names too though...
DH is such a stinker. He use to like to mess with people....and try to get me in trouble. If someone asked us, he'd play with them. For example his sister Sheila asked us and he said 'Luke for a boy and I want to name a girl Sheila but Liz said No Way'. LOL!!!! He would do that with everyone. Until he did it to my Aunt one time and she got all teary eyed and touched over it. Good thing we had a boy. ROTFLMAO!!!!

Funny naming story...
My best friend is very Irish, and her name is Siobhan (Sha-vawn). She was due on 4/27 (still no baby... ), and if her baby is a girl, she wants to name her Ciara (Keera). People have the nerve to tell her, 'You have to spell the name phonetically or she'll be miserable from pronouncing it for people for the rest of her life'. We have a good laugh over that one, considering Siobhan has spent HER entire life pronouncing her name for people and is PROUD of her heritage and is not the least bit miserable. The moral of my story is ~ Opinions are like heiney holes... everyone's got one, and lots of them stink!

OMG don't get me started about this crap You should hear what people have to say about Damien, that's evil , that's the devil. Damien is a saint for crying out tears When my SIL found out the name she kept trying to talk us out of it, she kept saying what about Damon instead. She finally hung up and called right back and told Steve that she just looked up Damien and it says evil , the devil and there was a picture of Hannibal Lecter next to it Then his other sister tonight said what about Quentin? I was like why don't you have another baby and name him yourself!!!!!

Hahahaha - bearsbabe- My father's name is Bartholomew!! It is a family name, and yes I am 100% Italian background. (half Sicilian/half neopolitan). My husband is not Italian and refuses to name any future child Bartholomew - but we may use it as a middle name.....maybe.

Re: Do you discuss name choses with people?
I can understand that someone might NOT like the name we pick- BUT they should keep their opinions to themselves or they can have another child and name what they like. I also don't like to tell people the names we like because we may change our minds- and do often- so I don't want anyone to even LIKE a name and then tell us 'But what about XX, you cannot change your mind'
