Do you have a lot of debt?

Original post by Mici n KC

I think about how I will have 30-year mortgage...that's a payment every month for the next 30 years...360 months...10,957 days (included 7 leap years)

you girls are my idols with no CC debt!

I was in an insane amount of CC debt , I was so reckless and STUPID and i had really high APR's .
I borrowed the money from my dad to pay it off and now I send him monthly payments interest free... and will be for the next 2 years

I haven't used them since this past summer, I learned my lesson

yea when i was in college i had crazy cc debt., and then when i gradutated FH made me pay them all off which im so thankful for., he trained me..hes good with $$ not me....i love to SPEND AWAY!

Same here, my FH is much better with money then me , he keeps me balanced. I seriously went shopping every week , trips to Vegas ect , and didn't ever really think long term.

Since FH I have really matured in this area ( it only took until 30 hah) .... I learned the difference between needing something and wanting something , impulse spending and I am proud to say I have not bought any clothes, shoes or bags since the summer ,only for wedding stuff

most of my debt were vacations that I charged and had zero money for., i wasnt even working and i was going everywhere like twice a year. I was nuts...it was worth it tho but my credit was crap and its good now.

Yeah about 200K in vet school debt it so stresses me out Oh and to top it off veterinarians don't make nearly as much money as their schooling costs in fact no one becomes a vet for the money...

After all is said and done, rent, fuel, cable, utilities, groceries no extras we have about 1200$ to play with.

$1200 to play with??? I wish. I think we have about $12 to play with

Lately, all my money is spent or accounted for as soon as I get paid. On Fridays I find myself wishing it was 2 Fridays from then. I do not have a lot of debt, either - and luckily, my parents are paying for the majority of the wedding - I have a car payment, school loans, rent, a honeymoon to pay off (I charged that since it was through expedia), and savings ... I don't count my 'play' money until savings and 401K has been funded. I have more than $12, but not too much ...

This is tough for me. I realize it's been tighter for some people. I have also borrowed from Peter to pay Paul so to speak.

I can tell you that life got a little easier with 2 incomes!

lets just say my name uldnt be on our mortgage because my credit is that bad

when i was 18 ( 5 yrs ago ) nobody told mehow important credit was..so i had accepted every credit card offeri got and ended up with about 15 credit cards

im slowly paying itoff..but it cant get any bigger because they are all closed and my credit is so bad that i can not open anything new..so ill get it cleaned up really quick i hope

I had the same problems right out of college.
I learned more about credit, how it works and why it is essiential due to all my bad choices.

FH and my friend and I talk often about this. Credit is so important these days and yet so many people have so little knowledge of how it affects them.

For instance, I recently learned that when you have a credit card and have charged 75% or more of your limit it negatively affects your credit rating. SO if you have a 2,000$ card and have 1500$ in charges you could lose 5 points each month you carry that balance. Not only that, but once you pay off the balance and get it under that thresh hold it could take 6 months to earn you good credit back!

Food for thought, for sure.

i now know the in's and out's of credit..everything about it because of my mistakes

its getting better i have 2 things still in good standing that keep my credit going everymonth..

i bargain with the debt collectors

ill call them when i have a few extra dollars and say if i pay this i full will you remove it and they always have said yes..they send a new copy of your report and its gone!!!

i have about 5 more to do with this and then ill have clean credit

Re: Do you have a lot of debt?

no, thankfully. i also dont see a mortgage on a house as a debt, more of an investment.

i am very lucky that i don't have any school loans. i had a partial scholarship for college and was an RA, and my parents helped me out. I'm on a full scholarship for law school.

FH doesn't have much school debt either -- maybe $6k, but he did 4 years of college and a masters (the rest was scholarship) so we are lucky lucky lucky. Both of us at tops schools.

I don't have any credit card debt either. I dont know what my credit score is though, probably not as high as I would like. Over the years I've signed up for quite a few store credit cards for a discount and never used them again. I think having lots of cards hurts your score, but closing them hurts it too. I should probably find out. I've never carried a balance on any (I pay it off each month)

Re: Do you have a lot of debt?

I have about $150,000 worth of student loan debt! And then FH has his... but I don't think he has as much. We haven't bought a house yet, and won't until he's done with his residency and we settle down in one area, but I would never consider that debt... or bad debt for that matter. I'm very good with my credit cards and keep them paid off all the time, I only buy stuff if I know i'll be able to pay it off.
