Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
you dont have to do them -- someone posted a poll about this a while ago and i was surprised by how many people said they 'expect' them when they go to OOT weddings, but i really dont think most people do. i really really dont think our guests expect them, but we are doing it anyway.
a lof our guests are travelling from far away (planes, etc) and it gets expensive. we arent going over the top, but after a long travel it's nice to have even something as little as a few water bottles (usually $4 to drink the in-room ones from the hotel) and maybe a small snack. you can do it really cheap if you wanted.

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
I was also undecided to do them or not but since there wasn't much to eat other than the hotel restaurant and Burger King around the hotel (and the hotel snacks were pricey) I decided to do them as well. I ordered them from this site called Wrap It up Gift Boxes and they were pretty inexpensive and the shipping was fast- they came out really pretty and everyone loved them. I also typed out an itinerary letting the guests know what was going on for the wedding day.
Btw I only needed like 10 boxes but I ordered a few extra to give away to those that didn't make the wedding- they loved it too!

Nope, I had a ton of OOT guests and I didnt do them. I never heard of them until LIW and have gone to OOT weddings and never received ones. SO its not necessary its just a nice touch.

not a necessity but i think a nice touch so i did them (90% of our wedding was from OOT- including us! ) and many OOT guests appreciated it.

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
Definitely not!!!!!
but we did them as we had sooo many out of town guests. our guests from Europe who were stuck staying in hotels at least one or two nights really appreciated it.
we did it cheaply by buying the things at Costco and we did simple bron paper bags.

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
I have been to a few OOT weddings, and most of them did not have any sort of welcome box or bag.
But the weddings that did have them, I felt it was a really nice touch on their part.
We did them, DH went to BJ's and picked up a bunch of snacks and water bottles. It didn't cost that much, and its nice to offer that extra sense of hospitality.
But, we also had a special Hospitality Suite in the hotel with snacks during the day of the wedding (since our wedding didn't start until 8pm) ... it gave everyone a place to mingle a little, and we especially wanted to do that since the hotel didn't include any breakfast in the discounted group rate.

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
I think its a nice thing to do for OOT guests, and I acutally think people do expect them. Most if not all out of town events I've been to have had them. You dont have to go crazy, just get some of those inexpesive gift bags from Michaels and a few things from Costco or BJs

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
We had A LOT of OOT guests, but we did not do OOTB. If you can afford it, go right ahead, but its one of those things that can realllllllllly add up!!

Re: do you HAVE to do OOTB?
Also depends on how many guests are staying at the hotel. We are having a hotel after party and have a sh!tload of people staying there (OOT and not). I wouldn't feel right giving some guests a box and not everyone. In my case, I think the wedding, afterparty and brunch the next day is enough

I planned to and never got around to it, though I didn't have that many OOT guests. I don't think it's necessary at all.

same as me..i was going to but that week i got to NY before the wedding...i had so much to do i couldnt even think about that
i think the things provided for them AT the wedding was enough
plus practically my whole wedding was OOT so it just would have cost too much money
