I can just about boil water and thats about it. Well....actually I can do the basics. But wouldnt know what to do to actually cook a real meal for entertaining guests like my IL's in the future.
We got so many things from our engagment party. Pots, Pans, etc. I just feel like I have all this stuff waiting for me to get crackin' and have no clue what to do with it. lol Anyone else feeling this way?
I aspire to be a great cook someday, but even with the cookbooks I have on my registry (three of them) I can't help but worry.

I love to cook! Don't worry, you will learn as you go along...and you will get better and better at it. As long as you try you will be ok.

I love to cook! I can make just about anything. And, I love to bake. I was taught by my mom, grandmother, and auntie.

Re: Do you know how to cook?
I can cook, but we make 'big production' meals, and I need to practice more everyday dinner type stuff. I think I'll be fine once we're living together, now it's annoying because we have to cook in one or the others house, people are underfoot, FH is underfoot, etc.

Re: Do you know how to cook?
absolutely - I just don't really like to do it! I know that sounds bad but the last thing in the world I want to do after working all day is come home and cook. It makes me crazy when I call FH on my way home from work at 6:30 or 7 pm and he (who has been home since 2 pm and lying on the couch) says 'what's for supper?' I want to jump through the phone and strangle him!!!!!!!
Weekends are a different story - I don't mind cooking. I tell him all the time we need a better division of labor - he should do the food shopping and the cooking during the week and I'll take over on weekends! It just doesn't happen that way.

We both cook all the time, I love it and so does he. We're such nerds with it too, we watch all the cooking shows and Food Network all the time and we are always emailing each other recipes and buying cookbooks

Re: Do you know how to cook?
FH is the cook in our family although he pretty much makes onlysauce and meatballs (he's italian). I have a TINY kitchen so I don't get much practice plus we don't eat together during the week because of school and work. But when we were eating together during the summer, I was getting creative with recipes I found online. I'm hoping that when I get a regular sized kitchen and nice kitchen stuff that I'll be inspired.

I love cooking, I taught myself when I lived alone in DC. Get the Joy of Cooking. Its a great cook book to learn to cook. It explains everything. For example, if a recipe tells you to fold, you can look in the reference section and it explains exactly how to fold, step by step. Its really the best book to use to learn to cook.
I have 3 on the registry already.
I don't know anything about these books. But I taught myself with Joy of Cooking. I would highly recommend it. Like I said it teaches you every little thing. Most cook books give you directions but this one actually has explanations of cooking methods, information about serving things, how to substitute ingredients. I think anyone can cook with it.

For my shower, I've asked a close friend of mine who definitely is an amazing cook to put together an album with her recipes in it for me. Hopefully they'll be easy to follow.
I like the recipe cards at the shower too. I already told my MOH I want her to do that. I also told her I want some of them pre-labeled. Like I want her to send one to my FMIL that says blue cheese stuffed mushrooms. They are FH's favorite and she won't share the recipe with ANYONE! I want that recipe.

Re: Do you know how to cook?
I can cook, but the best resource is
www.foodtv.com
it's the Food Network site.
Not only can you put in what ingredients you have in the house and get a recipe, or pick something you'd like to make and get the recipe and shopping list, but there are training videos on cooking basics and more advanced techniques. Even as someone who has been cooking a long time, I use this site all the time. I mean, you can learn everything from hard boiling an egg to making roast leg of lamb . . . . it's all there. Have fun!!!
