I am not married yet, but as I get closer I keep thinking that soon I will have a new name, it still sounds so weird to me when I say it aloud. I wonder how long it will take to get used to it, right now I dont like it as much as my 'real' maiden name.

I am trying to slowly ease into the name, on my card at Waldbaums I have the new name , at the cleaners I use his last name becuase it is not as common as my maiden name. I am slowly getting used to it, but I am sad that my old name is going to go soon, and my sister and I are the last ones to carry on the name. She is keeping her name for profesional reasons she is a doctor and it would be hassle to change her name on everything. But, yes, I am sad to see it go, and I rather keep my maiden name.

I really prefer my name too. My name is Irish, (as am I) and FH is Irish but he was adopted, so his name is Italian. Niether of us are Italian.
There is nothing wrong with Italian, its just kinda weird that our Irish kids will be running around with an Italian name.
Just doesn't seem very 'me'. Oh well.
Edited to add I am not from Ireland, just my heritage

I didn't even change my name but its weird when people send stuff to me with his last name. I still have trouble referring to him as Husband and its been 8 months. So many times I say my boyfriend and people correct me!

I currently have a jewish last name which is fine, except I'm not jewish and after I get married, I'll have a spanish last name -- and of course, I'm not spanish either! I wish my last name could be simple like Smith...so it could match my face, but oh well. Now I'll sound like a spanish soap opera star, which is pretty cool....

Re: Do you like your 'new' married name?
it took a loooong time for me to get used to my married name. At first I thought my first and new last name sounded wierd together, the more I say it now the more I think it is okay. I also went from an Irish last name to an Italian one. I am half Italian so it is okay.

I love my impending new name! I cannot wait to discard this one and take his! I'll have a Hebrew first name and an Irish last name, complete with a 'Mc'! I can't wait!

I'm starting to get used to it. I still use my maiden name at work though and go by his socially.

Erox - funny - I have a Jewish last name and I am not Jewish but I am marrying a Jewish guy and now I'll be getting his Jewish last name. Not crazy about it, but I've waited all my life to shed the name I have now! No offense to my Dad, but it's tricky and if misspelled would be banned on LIW! LOL

I cannot wait for my new married name...I'm going from a name that NO ONE can Pronounce, to something that's very easy, and sounds great!
