Do you think m&m and other popular candies look cheap at a wedding?

I want to name my tables popular candies (M&Ms, jordan almonds, swedish fish, etc) and then have those same candies in crystal bowls on the table for people to munch on. I thought it was a cute and unique idea and my FH likes it too. But my parents keep saying it looks cheap, they've never seen m&ms at a wedding before. Why does everything have to scream money? Can't I just have something cute that reflects my and FH's personality? ARRRRRRRRRRGH!

Do you girls think it is cheap looking?

I personally think it would be a such a cute idea.

I think you will have everyone mingling around all the different tables trying to sample all the different choices.

Let's stop using the word CHEAP and TACKY!

They're candy and candy makes EVERYONE happy - so I think it's a GREAT idea and it would be well appreciated.

I think it's all about presentation. M&M's are so colorful - they would look awesome in great bowls or jars. I have been to a wedding where the bride went for a low budget candy buffet and you could tell. Plastic salad bowls just weren't the right containers. Plus it was just the bowls on a table with white linen. It looked very sparse.

I like it! And at my sister's wedding she had bowls of m&ms on every table since their names are Mary & Mike.

I wanted to do M&M favors, but my dad said it looked cheap, so we had that at my shower instead. I think they are fun!!!!! Go for it!

I like that idea. I actually think that is really cute. It's different. I never saw that before. Go for it. It's your wedding, do what you want!

I think its nice! And I don't think expensive always = the things guests like the most

I was once given a beautiful set of oversized martini glasses as a favor. Its collecting dust. Another wedding I was given a matchbook, but we were able to use that one!

Do the personalized M&Ms (or even just buy them by color) and make your parents pay for them! That'll show them how 'cheap' they are!

I think it's a really cute idea and I agree with what the other girls have said regarding the presentation. Presentation makes all the difference. My only concern about the crystal bowls (and this is just me being a germophobe) is that I wouldn't necessarily want to dig my hands into the same bowl that other people have had their hands in.

We had M&Ms in our OOT guest boxes and I put them in these cute little plastic boxes (they were really inexpensive) and wrapped them with a ribbon. Maybe something like that with a little note saying 'Please enjoy these sweet treats while you wait for your meal' or something like that? So people would know that they were meant to be eaten AT the wedding. Or individual little crysal bowls? Sorry if I'm being paranoid - I'm the girl who carried a bottle of Antibacterial gel everywhere I go!
