Do you think m&m and other popular candies look cheap at a wedding?
Original post by glinda_goodwitch
I want to name my tables popular candies (M&Ms, jordan almonds, swedish fish, etc) and then have those same candies in crystal bowls on the table for people to munch on. I thought it was a cute and unique idea and my FH likes it too. But my parents keep saying it looks cheap, they've never seen m&ms at a wedding before. Why does everything have to scream money? Can't I just have something cute that reflects my and FH's personality? ARRRRRRRRRRGH!
Do you girls think it is cheap looking?

Let's stop using the word CHEAP and TACKY!
They're candy and candy makes EVERYONE happy - so I think it's a GREAT idea and it would be well appreciated.
These weren't my words. They were my mother's.

These wouldn't be favors or even centerpieces. They would just be munchies and something cute. My parents want chocolate covered cashews on the table because that's what everyone else has. Well, I don't want to be like everybody else!

It wasn't targeted at you babydoll- sorry if it came off like that.
It was more of a general statement - it just ends up hurting feelings! As your mom might have hurt yours.

It hurt me a lot, especially since then she was lecturing me about that on the way to the airport for me to go home. So it wasn't exactly a nice ride back. (Not to mention her temper tantrum after that about reply cards).

I must live under a rock - I have never seen chocolate covered cashews on the table at a wedding.
I am generally not a fan of table names, but I think you and your DH should do what makes you happy. And personally, I would LOVE a big bowl of M&Ms or swedish fish at my table, yummmmmmmm

Glinda, I really have to ask if you're my SIL, because your Mom sounds like my MIL.
Of course, DH has no sisters, so that's unlikely. Maybe we should just introduce my MIL and your mom - they'd get along very well!!

Maybe! I also am an only child, so I don't think that I could be your SIL. But I read a lot of Stephen King fantasy, so maybe we are what he calls 'twinners'. Same people in different worlds. Maybe I'm your Boston SIL!

I think its a nice idea, you can personalize the M&M's with your wedding colors and personal saying and thats a nice touch.

It is not cheap at all! It is not my style, but that doesn't make it cheap! Personally, I think color coordinated m&m's are fantastic and your parents are nuts. You know yourself and your fiance better than anyone; if this reflects your personality (cute/sweet/everything nice) then you should do it. Parents can sometimes suck-and that is just how it is...
