i work but my mom always takes off that thursday and friday. holy week is the most somber week for catholics so we dont usually celebrate things. however, that is for practiciing catholics. also many catholics dont eat meat that day.

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
What time is your wedding? If its in the evening then even if people are working they will have time to go home and get ready. Also if you give them enough notice maybe they can take half day or the day off. I'm having a friday night wedding but our ceremony doesnt start until 8:30pm

The world doesn't stop on Good Friday but don't worry about that - you can still have your wedding. But I think Catholics don't eat meat on Good Friday (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) - so that might affect your dinner choices...

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
I have off but like someone said Good Friday is not supposed to be a day to celebrate, so if you are having Catholic guests it might not be a good idea.

Good Friday is also more of a somber day for Catholics, not a day to celebrate. So this may be a problem for your guests who are Catholic.
Good Friday along with Easter is the holiest time for Catholics. As said above it is a very somber day with fasting, not eating meat of any kind etc. and not a day to celebrate. Most Catholics (I do) take it off as a Holy day. It is sort of like what Yom Kippur is to Jews.

No, the world doesn't stop for Good Friday and it doesn't stop for Yom Kippur too but you have to be respectful of everyone and Good Friday is a very holy holiday for Catholics as Yom Kippur is for Jews.

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
I think it depends on where you work.
I get off every catholic holiday (even St. Patricks Day).
But then again i work in the NY Catholic Center in the city.

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
I think most people who have 'regular' jobs (i.e.:offices, retail) do work that day.
Non regular jobs that don't make up the majority would be banks and maybe schools.
Basically, most people do work on good Friday. Its not a recognized legal holiday like Easter or Thanksgiving where no one works. And because of that places of work are open.
That does not mean that individuals don't take off of work for the very somber holiday. And if the wedding is later in the evening people will still have time to get home and change for the wedding.
Hope this helps you and congrats!

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
My old firm gave us off on Good Friday, mostly bc my Boss was a Catholic and he observed the holiday. At my current firm we do not get Good Friday off. I howver usually take the day off bc as some previous posts have mentioned, it is not a day to celebrate or work if you believe in the teaching of the Christian church-- but rather a very somber day. I personally dont think I would be able to attend a wedding on Good Friday bc it would go against my beliefs.
That being said I know many people who would not have a problem with it. You have to feel your guests out, if you have many very relisgious Christian guests you may want to consider changing the date. I almost had my wedding on one of the high holy days of the jewish faith-- it would have affected a minority of my guests as som eof my jewish friends said it wouldnt bother them to go to a wedding on that date.. *(we changed the date for different reasons ultimatly)

Re: Do you work April 2nd?
Our firm gives us a half day on Good Friday. We get to leave at 1PM.
Also, Good Friday is not really a day to celebrate. I would have a hard time going to a wedding that day. I wouldn't do it if a lot of your guests are Catholic.

It's also one of those holidays where employers are tolerant of you leaving early.

Wasn't being disrespectful, just answering the question - didn't intend it to sound rude
