Does this sound like pressure

Original post by WithThisRing

I saw a DJ last night and this was the email I got this afternoon:

It was nice to meet you and your fiance' last night. Its funny, I just received an email this morning from a liwedding bride requesting information
for September 18, 2004. Like I said last night, 2004 dates are really coming in fast. I sent her off information and a price list.

I know you two are looking around and I was your first DJ, but honestly the day could go at anytime. I actually have more september dates next year than I do this year, strange but true.

I'm not trying to put any pressure on you, I just wanted to let you know that someone else is interested in the date. Without a signed contract and deposit i can't hold the date.

Okay I hope to speak to you soon. Take care and happy planning.

I dont like to feel pressured. I told him Thanks for the email FI and I will be in touch soon.

Call me Ms. Benefit of the Doubt, but in my years on this board I have seen people miss out on a vendor because someone else booked the date. I would say that possibility is there, and you should be aware of it. That being said, I don't believe in panic, and I think that the vendor was being pushy/rude.

So far I have not had any problems with vendors. If I didnt choose them I would give them the courtesty and call them and tell them thanks for spending the time with me but we have chosen a different way. And they were all really nice about it.

I get vendors who I never met with calliing me and asking if I need there services and when I tell them no they say ok thanks have a wonderful day.

I dont like the scare tactic. thats not nice....

I am really starting to think, later for this guy. I have 2 more I want to go see and I am going to put up a thread asking about DJ's.

Chippa I would be cautious - Remember what happened to me when I had a vendor do that to me - when I go home from the apt - I posted it here b/c I thought it was strange - but was told on here that it must be a a fluke.

I think what bothered me the most he said LIWeddings bride.

Come on, I am on here all the time I think I would know who it was. Yes we have girls that are just readers but something like that I think I would have picked up on.

Sounds like a sales gimmick. I would definitly look around for another DJ that might be a little more honest.

Re: Does this sound like pressure

chippa you're stressing me...I don't have that much done at all!! and this morning I'm telling one of my friends how well organized I was being for a change...then I come here and people (you!) getting married 3 months after me have so much more done!

I'm looking to find someone to do it all for me but so far no luck...

Anyone interested in the job?

Melissa: that would get me too. How can he say that it is another LIW bride, like you said that we are on here all the time and would know if we are sharing our date with someone else. Don't worry you will find a DJ that you and Brian are going to be happy with. Sorry that I took yours.

Chippa- I am in agreement with you - but to play devils advocate - could the person be a lurker who never posts?

Re: Does this sound like pressure

I have way too much time on my hands
(T i have also been sending resumes in between and to the 2 people whose email addresses you gave me)

and in my search I have found someone on here who was just recently engaged and has 2 dates in mind for her wedding. One of them being 9/18/2004.

So with all the time on my hands, I emailed her asking her if she called a DJ asking about the date.

How did you feel about the vendor before you got the email? Trust your first instinct. The email may seem a bit shady, but I was going to book a hall, went in with a deposit, only to find out that they no longer had my date available. I was a little annoyed that they didn't call to let me know that someone else was interested, but oh well. I guess it goes both ways.

Re: Does this sound like pressure

When we saw him at the showcase at our hall FI and I were like oh my goodness he is really good. He's really funny, very motivated and he really knows how to work the crowd.

When we met with him we were naming songs from the 70's and he knew his stuff. he knew the song, the artist and the album it was on. he was really impressive.

Since it was the first DJ we looked at we had nothing to compare him too and wanted to look around. FI really liked him and was impressed he knew everything.

But we also want to see what else is out there. So we're going to look at a few more over the next 2 weeks and hopefully will make a decision then.

I find it a turn off to be pressured. There are LOTS of great DJs Chippa! I say skip him!
