I used to download all my music when I was planning our wedding - I wonder if I should delete the program off my home computer Or is not downloading anymore songs enough?

I got a CNN breaking news story that the people that downloaded the program were getting amnesty.

Terri, I was thinking the same thing, that thank goodness the wedding is past and gone b/c we got a lot of our songs from the internet for our cd.

I have it on my computer. I think I'm going delete it, since there is no way I'm downloading music from there again

If you have downloaded more than 1000 songs you have to worry.....

Kazaa was a nightmare to begin with. Yes, it had that 10 or precent more than other places..but I couldnt take the pop us.
I d/l elsewhere. Funny thing is... most of what I download I owe, but it's at my parents 5 states away. How can you sue me for downloading music I already own?
I use another program.. FM if you're curious which one it is.

kazaa-lite is the way to go - all the benefits of kazaa and NO pop-ups.
I'm not a music downloader myself, but Al is.

suing a 12 yr old is just silly to be, in fact, suing anyone in this case is stupid IMO.
If it's illegal the sites should be removed, and maybe they should be sued, but not the users. At the time, most of them probably didn't even know what they were doing was wrong.

I wonder, is this action for all music sites? I would think so, but why are they focusing strictly on Kazaa?
I'm going home tonight and will delete my acct. I have to admit I'm sad to see all those songs go....I spent so much time and energy creating a nice little album for myself
I also used it to make Christmas CDs for family last year - guess I'll have to think of another idea for this year

If I understand this correctly its not the downloading that is the problem, its the sharing

Bingo Shamma. That's why every day, I'm faced with the possibility of losing my job. The more that is shared, the more money we lose...the more money our songwriters lose, the more songwriters we have to give up because they aren't making money...the less they need us around.

You really don't have to worry if you have less than 1000 songs downloaded. Most of you probably have just a few hundred at most. If you are in the group that has thousands of songs downloaded and shared, that is who this lawsuit is targeting.

ok, so Kazaa was the only service now out there that still shares it's music? The other sites you can still download but I guess pay a fee for, and that's legal?

Teri blubster is free, i never used kazaa, always blubster!
Re: Don't download anymore from Kazaa or other music sites (see article)
kazaa lite is not based int he US...so if you use it nothing can happen to you...there are also no pop-ups or spyware installation...
there is also an option where you can choose not to share you music files...you can also just burn the mp3s onto CD...and no one would be the wiser...
there is an option to turn yourself in...but that is not a good option since these are not all the music companies...and then you would be admitting guilt...
don't you think its time that musician and record execs make a little less money...and working class schmos get a break? there is one company that is reducing the price of cds...

Re: Don't download anymore from Kazaa or other music sites (see article)
It's legal to download music that you have paid for. Ie: ITunes is perfectly legal because you pay per track downloaded, just as you would pay for a cd single. It is illegal to share this music with other users on 'underground' sites that throw the music up for free. It is also illegal for you to burn and distribute the music for money, like selling and distributing bootlegged cd's. The people this lawsuit is targeting (for the first phase) are those that have downloaded and shared in excess of 1000 songs. Like anything, things fall through the cracks, and I am certain that a few who have been targeted (like this 12 year old girl) are mistakes.

As far as I know, it is not illegal to download music provided you are not reselling it or using it for profit. The music companies are trying to set a precendent by dragging this thru the courts and the media. (civil court, not criminal) I hope the suits get thrown out b/c its ridiculous!
Maybe the music companies will figure out that after charging the public and insane amt for music all along ($16 for a CD is insane!) that this is what they deserve. If music was reasonably priced, no one would bother to go to all the trouble that Kazaa and sites like are.
I know I would gladly pay a reasonable price for the music i like. But I should have to pay $16 to get one song while the rest are junk?
