Dress... YAY or NAY!

Original post by mls282

So I have been shopping for awhile... having difficultly finding THE dress in my price range. I went to a shop today where they sell designer gowns from previous seasons that they get from the designers etc. So its like 24/7 Sample Sale.

Here is the pic of the dress that I have liked the most so far...

It's gorgeous Reem Acra dress. Originally $5k, but purchase price is 70% off. Cleaning is included in the price as well as an repairs (of which there are none on this dress since it just arrived yesterday)

What do you think of it...

Honest opinions... I know I look a little chubs right now... LOL! My friend is visiting....

Pics too big. See my album (Dresses Yay or Nay!)

I think the dress is really beautiful. It is very different and elegant. You have to be sure that this is the dress you want to wear on your wedding day. I know that's alot of pressure and it took me a long time to find the perfect dress but don't settle!

I think it's really classic and pretty, but I think it seems expensive for that little amount of beading even at $2K.

I agree here. I think it's a gorgeous dress and you do look nice in it but I'm not sure it's the most flattering in the chest area.

If you look at the model, she's pretty flat chested so the dress helps emphasize her small bust.

Since you're filling out the top well, the bottom looks really plain. like there's more going on up top than the rest....JMO.

HTH.

Thats so funny that you say that. I have a 34B ... TMI.... LOL!!! But the top was falling off of me it was so large... the girl was actually behind me holding pulling it up so I didnt flash the camera.
LOL!!!

I loved the fit of it on my body... and the gown was amazing quality.... it worked with my shape and it still had the poofiness at the bottom but was form fitting through the hips which is what I like. I don't think the top was my favorite. I actually do like strapless dresses best. I didn't even pick this one the sale girl did... and it ended up being my favorite of the 25 dresses I tried on today..

I am off to another salon tomorrow.... hopefully theu will let me take pics too. I go shopping alone so at least I can get opinions this way.

Thanks everyone for your honest opinion!!! I really appreciate that!!!!

Thanks!!!!

I think it's beautiful, but I kind of agree that it's a little plain except for the top.

JMO, don't get mad, but I would say NAY.

I don't really like the top, looks a bit stiff and the bottom is bit plain, but thats because I love love love beading...

I say YAY!!! I think it's gorgeous!!!! And since the dress doesn't have that much going on, you can dress it up with a beautiful veil, earrings, and bouquet! I think the dress has a lot of potential

I LOVE it. It's gorgeous! And a great price for Reem Acra. I haven't started dress shopping yet but I'm hoping too to get some A-list designer dress at a great discounted price myself!. Crossing my fingers!

I really love the top. Every bride wears strapless nowadays. I'm personally very into the straps and the beading is just the right amount. Not too much to be gaudy. Love it!!

i love the top of the dress - and i think your chest looks amazing in it not to be a lesbo or anything - but i think in the pic it looked very flattering and i love it - the bottom is a little plain, but plain is also very elegant - i like it - if you loveit get it! doesnt matter what anyone else thinks anyway

I'm not crazy about it. It looks like it will wrinkle easily too. I had a dress like that and after I sat it was all wrinkled.

in general that is my favorite dress maker....but there is something about the mid section of that dress, even on the model, that bugs me a little.
It is a good deal though, and it fits you well in the bust.
Keep in mind, if you lose weight, the whole proportion shifts.
I'm leaning towards saying keep looking.

I have to be honest..as gorgeous of a girl you are, you can do better.

Sometimes high end labels dont live up to their hype on a particular item, and unfortunately, I think this an example.

To me, the first thing I thought was that the top part looks a little too trainers bra shaped to me. It reminded me of the bra my mom bought when I was a teen (minus the beading of course!) And I felt like the train or the bottom of the dress was lacking SOME kind of detailing, beading or whatever. I dunno, theres a fine line between classic and elegant and just blah....and IMO, this dress does NOT do you justice! Im sorry. I hope you were looking for honesty!

I honestly don't love it....it is a really great deal but I think you could do better. But, it really doesn't matter what I think! If it felt right, you should go for it. If you're going to get it just b/c there's pressure and it was a great deal, I wouldn't. Don't rush just b/c it seems like such a great sale, only if you know it's right! JMO! Good luck!!!

I agree
