I didn't have one, but my best friend had a huge, wedding-like party and opened the gifts (mainly envelopes) at home. I don't know if at less formal parties (like restaurants or homes) people open them....ladies....

I had my party at a firehouse so I waited till I got home and opened them there.. It was nice to hae FH and I and my parents and some close family members.

we didn't receive any gifts at all, everyone gave cash gifts in an envelope and you can't open those in front of people but even if we got gifts dont think we would've opened them there

its generally recommended to open them at home because eparty etiquette states that gifts aren't a requirement for them. so you usually wait this way it doesnt make your other guests who couldn't/didn't bring a gift feel bad. If your guest really wants you to open a gift you should try to do it off in a corner with them privately. Unless everyone at your party asks to see what you got. :) hope that helps

from a guest's point of view i'm begging you to open them after everyone leaves.
i know some people like to ooooh and aaaaah but i'm so not one of them, and i'm always worried that my gift will suck compared to other people's.

We received a mix of cash and gifts. Ours was at a restaurant and we waited to open them at home.

I think you only open gifts at a shower because the point of the shower is to give the bride stuff to start her new married life. An eparty is really just a get together/celebration. I would open at home.
