Do you ladies feel that people frequently ask the size of your diamond? If so, do you respond or do you feel that is none of their business?I have been asked and I figured they would ask me because my cousin got married in June (she is very materialistic) and my other cousin is getting married in October. Needless to say I didn't mind sharing that information. My sister thinks it is rude for people to ask. How do you feel about it?

I haven't encountered many people who have asked. I don't really care if they do. I will say if it's family or friends I think it is totally fine. I did find it strange when one of my patients asked me how many carats it was. I wouldn't ask a stranger, but my family, why not!

It's such a silly question because there are a lot of things that factor into the price of a diamond, size is only one of them. I have seen plenty of very large, dull, and slightly yellow diamonds in my day.I guess it would depend on the context in which I was asked if I found it rude.
Someone once asked me what my FH paid for the diamond, I thought that was definitely rude!

I've been asked - more than I thought I would be. I just tell them but I've read that if you would rather not say bc you feel its rude you can answer with things like 'the perfect size' or 'more than I could have hoped for' kind of thing.

Not many people besides family nad close friends have asked about the size. I have been asked on multiple occasions by strangers (receptionists, people on line at the food store) where FH bought the ring. I always answer with 'I have no idea, I think it would be rude to ask him because it doesn't really matter'lol of course I know where he bought the ring but I just don't feel like giving these people the time of day. I find it so rude.

I was just curious because my sister who has been married 6 years said she has never been asked and within a week of being engaged I was asked numerous times.( It could have just been because we are all the same age and all engaged that they were curious) I told them how big it was because I LOVE my ring but I just wasn't sure if this was common.

Yeah, I was never asked. Although I was ANNOYED (maybe I'm a little sensitive) but my 'friend' who I'm not really close with and has ignored my engagement almost completely said it was 'cute'...Meanwhile her husband didn't buy her engagement ring and when she got it she HATED it but he wouldn't exchange it so now she 'loves' it...Jealousy is gross!

I think if people are asking, they think its a pretty big rock! My sister has an enormous rock, but it has a major flaw in it so it was a decent price, but people are always asking her! I have never gotten asked but my ring is very small. When we got engaged we were 1 month out of college-- FH saved up during our senior year from his $10/hour, 10 hour a week job. My tiny rock means more to me than any karat number, so I am glad people don't ask. FH says when we are in a better place financially I can get a better one-- I yell at him every time!

I was asked one time by someone in my family. I wasn't offended, but if asked by a stranger I probably would be!

I agree. My ring is a karat and no one ever asks. haha.
But I also don't mind telling people. I would have been happy if FH gave me a pebble. People that ask are usually just materialistic.

My FBIL's girlfriend made this comment when she saw my ring 'OH I love how small it is for your tiny little fingers'
Yes. My ring is small. It was super inexpensive. Its an antique vintage ring that FH let me pick out.
For me... its not the size of the diamond. It was the feeling I got when I put on this ring.
The size of my ring does not equate to how much he loves me.
My marriage is not the size of a ring on my finger.
Also... I couldn't imagine walking around with thousands of dollars on my hand.

It's funny because my center stone is bigger then I had ever expected. In fact I actually felt funny asking FH what the size was.(but the girl in me HAD to know lol)It didn't matter what it looked like or how big/small it was, the proposal was more then I could have dreamed of & I get to marry my best friend!

I totally understand! I was like WOW so I was super curious and was surprised with how big but he also chose top notch cut, clarity and all the other things that go into diamond buying. He gave me a 1/2 carat diamond promise ring so I knew he was going to spoil me on E-Ring. I would definitely agree that the proposal and knowing I will marry the love of my life is what truly matters.

My best friend asked me how big it is and all the details about it. She didn't get to see me (or the ring) until 2 months later so I think she was just really excited. No one else has asked details though, just to see it!

i dont like answering that question!! most of my friends- well all my married friends got married because they got pregnant, none of them were engaged and all had a shot gun wedding (5 friends- go figure!) anyway, they have nice rings, but when they saw mine with FH saved and saved for they all had comments and it made me feel uncomfortable because they all wanted to try it on and such and i just didnt want it to be a big deal! at the same time, i felt like i was offending them because they didnt have as large of a ringfrom now on i just say thanks and thats it!

I don't think anyone has actually asked me how big my diamond is. When I first got the ring people (including myself!) commented about how big it was -- it's actually not that big, the setting just compliments it very well. It's definitely bigger than anything I ever looked at, but that was FH's decision not mine (it's still under a karat too!)

I have someone that only asks me intrusive questions - and they're on a regular basis. She won't call me to hang out or just to say hi, but out of no where she'll text me to ask me if I've bought a dress or questions about the wedding. SO annoying.I don't think I've ever had anyone ask me the size, and to be honest, I don't even know. I don't even know the names of all the diamonds, only the one in the middle lol. Either way, I love it!
