E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
Anyone have any info on getting the engagement ring appraised & insured? I know of other girls who added the ring onto their homeowners policy - but neither my FH or I have policies. Any advise? Thanks so much!

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
I'm not sure what policy you would add it to....FH and I are adding it to his homeowners.. but just an FYI...because we almost go ripped off.... you should shop around on the appraisal. I didn't think I could get it done at the same place that sold it to me (but it turns out I could/did).... When I was looking for a place, the prices for the appraisal were ridiculous. Zales was about $250... This other jeweler I called wanted10% of whatever the ring was appraised for
and then the Barclay (in the mall) wanted $75 (which was the cheapest I could find). I....fortunately...was able to go back to the place I bought it (where my aunt works) and she didnt' charge me... I would just recommend that you shop around....some places were out of control!! Good luck!

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
I added my e-ring to my renter's policy. If you live in an apartment and don't have a renter's policy then I would strongly suggest that you get one. They only cost about $150 a year.

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
If you don't have either homeowner's or rental insurance, you can insure your rings alone. I didn't have either so I went through Jeweler's Mutual. There is a scale based on the appraised value of your ring for how much you have to pay each year and I think it was very reasonable.Check their website out:

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
I insured all jewlery through renter's insurance. I didn't have to get anything appraised, they just asked me the amount of $ I wanted to insure jewlery for.

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
We got a policy just for my ring and the watch I bought him. I couldn't add it to his homeowners policy because I don't live there. So we got the insurance for just the jewelry.

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
We used Bunty's to get the appraisal done. It was only $35...no matter what the ring looks like. I called other places - and they told me they start at $85 and then go up from there depending on the ring. i think that is a little unfair! We went through Chubb insurance which has a GREAT policy for engagement rings!

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
you can easily add it to your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy....or buy sep. insurance...we opted not to as the ring is always on my finger...FH jokes that he'll know when i'm dead b/c the police will find a tiny finger with no ring on it anymore. lol....i agree, you should shop around for an appraiser.

FH and I just got my ring appraised this past monday. we went to the jewerly judge right by the roosevelt field mall. it was $100 but he did a very extensive appraisal. He was very nice. We are going to get the insurance recommended by him.

Wow that is so unethical to charge you a % of the value of teh ring!!! That would make for a very biased appraisal

Re: E-ring Appraisal/Insurance
I have it attached to my renters policy. My FH insured it before he gave it to me though on his parent's homeowners policy (he was living at home at the time and day before he proposed, he was going to work in the Bronx and then to the Yankee game).
