Lets learn from other brides mistakes. I went to this one wedding where the bride knew her priest was flying in from colombia the day before. She was having her wedding at the reception hall scheduled for 6pm. The priest didnt show up until 9:30!!!!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Ohhh yes I have! I went to a wedding in a nice place but the couple (trying to save $$) hired a friend to DJ. Well, this wedding proved that your DJ/Band can make or break your wedding. This guy (who I also knew) was used to doing college parties where you just keep throwing CD's in had apparently no MC skills. In fact when he was announcing the BP he didn't even play music, I felt like I was at a graduation ceremony. The Maitre D' made him stop and put on some music for when the Bride and Groom came in. That was just the beginning of the evening.....

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Any upstate wedding that I have been to - with the exception of one, which oddly was among my most favorite wedding - has been baaaaad.
The last one I went to the DJ played some horrific song (some hee-haw song trashing the bride) four - F O U R - times. One of those 4 times was back to back.

Oh yes...the groom came in w/ sunglasses and a leather jacket w/ his bride to House of Pains 'Jump Around'...need I say more? The music was bad and they gave out leah's and tiny white gloves. Too much for my taste.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
we were going to use a friend who does dj'ing on the side... it sounded real great saving the money..
the more we thought about it, we figured leave it to the proffesional..
especially after he said maybe his 8 and 12 year old can be the mc...

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
LMAO to these stories..... but learning VERY valuable lessons. I went to this one wedding where the bride came back from the bathroom, sat down and (GASP) the back of her dress ripped from the top (strapless) to the middle of her back. Ouch!!!! It was just a little too tight for her!!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
My cousin's wedding in Canada had the WORST food!
The CH was buffet style, and everyone got ONE of each item, of which there was a grand total of 3 - a mini eggroll, a meatball and something else. The CH was outside and there were no seats. Only drink was punch.
Inside our place card were all spelled wrong, and not just a little wrong - massively wrong. I was listed with my nickname, my little sister's last name was some madeup thing, my aunts were called by their maiden names, etc. And we were way back by the speakers, although we were first cousins of the groom.
The waiter didn't bring over butter for our bread. And when we asked for more, he told us we couldn't have it!
The food, when it came out, was gross - cold and skimpy. My cousin couldn't eat her fish it smelt so bad.
What was funny was that after the official wedding there was a party and the food there was SO much better! Don't know why - after awhile I just went to sleep in our van.
And it was in CANADA. We had to travel - I spent 8 hours overnight on a bus to make it there! Very sad.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
My mom's stepbrother got married in some American Legion or VFW hall in Ohio and it was sketchy. The bride was hick-ish and her whole family was trashy (he thought he could save her from her bad life, they later divorced). BAAAAADDD wedding

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I went to a wedding where we got seated RIGHT next to the speakers. Techno all night, and the DJ never announced when the courses were being served, so if you happened to get up from your seat, entire courses were served and taken away before you ever even saw them! Not to mention that our table never got champagne for the toast!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Be careful with the size and set-up of the ballroom. Our friends got married at a restaurant, the groom works there, and their ballroom is more of a rectangle than a square and the opening isn't centered. All of the tables that weren't on the dance floor felt like they were in a separate room. My FIL's were there and they said they didn't even feel like they were part of the celebration.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Any Wedding out of state LOL.. Wedding in Ohio. In the back of the church which would be alright until the grooms brother and friends showed up in jeans ummmm and they had wood tables with no tableclothes... Went to a wedding in GA where the brides family was from NY and the grooms family was from GA. In GA they dont have liquor and food at their weddings. Their wedding 'reception' is finger sandwich in jean shorts and we stay fro 30 minutes and leave. NOT AT THIS wedding the grooms family left and I still have visions of my dad and the brides dad (they are really good friends and they ALWAYS get into trouble where liquor is involved) finishing the keg off while we are all cleaning up. LOL. Then going back to the house and the brides father standing sideways LOL it was fun!!!!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I'm the mom of halloweeenbride04 and we're so nervous. This wedding is so untraditional it makes me wonder. Keep in mind, this upstate wedding will be for my only son.
The planning: 500 people, some which will be open invitation, they are not using RSVP's in the invitations, no caterier, (her mom is doing all the cooking), restrooms: haven't a clue. No acohol, and one of the main course is a pig roast. Which is a very huge success and a very traditional food at upstate weddings. the bride and groom are planning on changing out of their wedding attire into 'something comfortable'. My daughter and I feel that if we are spending all this money for our gowns, we will not get out of them till the evening is over.
I have told them that I need X amount of invitations for our family/friends and I will be purchasing the RSVP's for the invites, and the stamps for the inner and outter invites and I will mail them myself. I don't want our family to have anything bad to say.
They are planning a sunset wedding which will be absoutly beautiful BUT the sun sets on July 4th at 8:43PM which means, the reception won't be until 10PM or so. Now they are running into a problem with the photographer who wants to do ALL photos before the ceremony which we all know this is not acceptable in our world. But trying to convience my son and his bride to be is just not working. I just wouldn't want one of the most precious moments of the ceremony be taken away by a photographers stupidy or a hurry up job. This guy should know better. But I'm the grooms mother and I've learned the hard way 'shut your mouth' so, its shut!
The DJ for the wedding is a personal friend who DJ's as her business. She's fantastic and has done their engagement party. No one sits, everyone is involved and she makes sure of it. So I know that this aspect will work just great!
I know that we all make light of this at my sons expense and we all are probably making more of an issue than it might be, but I'm going from a July mountian top wedding to my daughters very formal LI wedding in October.
My daughter keeps telling me 'Mom, we'll have a blast and give him our blessing. We love him and want the best for him'.
So now that I have rambled on about my sons wedding, I'm freaking out again.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I once got stuck on a receiving line for over an hour at DH's friend's wedding. How rude is that? I don't care if you ARE the bride!
I have been to several weddings where too many people are crammed into a too small room to the point where you cannot move your chair to get up unless the person behind you scootches all the way in.
I went to a wedding that did not have table assignments and none of the guests thought to leave the table for two in front for the bride & groom. Their immediate families were spread out all over the place - the grooms parents sat in the adjacent room.
Keep the speeches short & to a minimum. I was at a wedding with about 45 minutes of speeches (same one with the 60+ minute receiving line). I cannot describe how painful that was.
