Lets learn from other brides mistakes. I went to this one wedding where the bride knew her priest was flying in from colombia the day before. She was having her wedding at the reception hall scheduled for 6pm. The priest didnt show up until 9:30!!!!

I probably shouldn't say this becasue this was actually one of the funest weddings I've ever been to but I've been in the mid-west for a few years and things are a little more low key out here. This was a rural Wisconsin wedding and let me tell you...tailgaiting is an artform up there. My first clue should have been the fact that they had to fish the groom and the ushers out of the bar across street from the church. Then tehre was the tailgaiting outside the Catholic church after the ceremony, complete with keg and all. In the midwest dinner is served all at once in the beginning and the dancing comes later so that anyone who wants to can leave. We ate dinner with one of those plastic wrapped utensil packets complete with the combo fork/spoon thingy and a napkin. I'm sorry if I sound like a snob but if you're gonna go with plastic utensils, spring for the fancy Solo brand so I can cut my meat! Again low key on a different level but still a good time! And my fiance still wants to knwo when he can change into shorts at our reception....
What? You didn't love the 'spork' (spoon/fork)?

OMG LMAO!!!!! You are all so very funny!! Someone should be collecting all of these and put them in the form of a book for what future brides should not be doing!!!
Thanks for the laughs!!!!

I went to a wedding at Russo's excellent food But the Bride and Groom's favorite group was The Beatles....They hired a band who impersonates them, they changed customs three times, and all they played all night was Beatle Music... Hardly anyone danced at all!!

The worst wedding I ever attended was a dry wedding... and I do mean dry. As in, we had to ask repeatedly for WATER! I mean, not having alcohol is the bride and groom's prerogative, but water?????? And soft drinks were entirely out of the question. Very, very weird.
ETA: There wasn't any music, either!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Yes, recently too. My FH's brother. He and his wife live in PA now, but they had their wedding in Staten Island (family was not willing to travel to the Amish country is what I hear) and for some reason they decided to seriously move up their wedding plans (she's kind of b****y and he's SO laid back). Well, first... FH and I were an hour late b/c of Belt Pkwy, bridge and SI traffic! That was our fault, but we did leave early (not our fault a semi decided not to listen to the signs on the Belt that say 'no trucks'). Anyway, the food was horrible, I asked for a cup of tea from the moment I got there b/c I was sick with a sinus infection and my throat hurt bad, between me and FH I finally got my tea well after coffee was served for dessert. The dance floor was so small that when they did the 'Italian dance' (not sure what it's called, the one in a circle) everyone got smooshed - I ended up going back to my seat. It was a tiny wedding, but planned so quickly that I don't think they really cared about their guests, just getting married.

I went to a wedding for a friend and it was not so much bad as it wsa sad....her father was killed on his way tto work one morning by a drunk driver 4 months before the wedding.....the week before Father's Day....... They were thinking about postponing the wedding, but decided against it....it was so sad and depressing...I felt so so bad for everyone there......they had such a difficult time celebrating this wonderful event.......

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
THis is a reminder that you shouldn't worry about the mishapes just be glad you are marrying the right man. A friend of mine got married at a lavish wedding in CA. Her groom answered his cell phone during the vows(he's a doctor, but please), then at the reception during the toasts the BM said how he would miss hanging out at the groom's bacholor pad with all the chicks and that he didn't have anything to say about the bride since he hardly knew her, the other groomsmen then presented her with a t-shirt that said jailer and a fake ball n chain. THe bride ended up at our table most of the night, looked like she wanted to cry and made me leave the reception to stand outside and cry some tears of my own for her. She is still a wonderful person but I don't know why she married this A&&. Also she had doubts before the wedding but didn't want to call it off due to the expense.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Ouch.. Well I must say that one of the best weddings I went to was actually one of the worst.
The church was beautiful, the club/hall was beautiful as well but I could not enjoy the day because the groom had ben on the phone with his mistress the night before the wedding and right before he got to the church. Also unknown to the bride..one of his flings was in attendance. When they did the first dance she just turned up her nose at the bride and groom. I spent the whole evening feeling sory for the bride..what she thought was a fairy tale was about to be the continuation of a nightmare.
Oh for the noticible bad part..they had a server give out stuff like fish, vegetables, curry goat and some dry A$$ rice..we had to pass the dishes around like you do at thanksgiving dinner and when it was done..it was done. So some people got a little of everything and some people got barely anyhting that they wanted.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
ok i was to the all time worst wedding ever (hopefully she isnt on here ) but i went to my friend's wedding - now mind you she picked up and left just about everything behind to move to south carolina to marry this guy she met online - well anyways they were living in a furnished room behind the place he was working so to keep her from seeing him the day of she stayed with me at the hotel. the wedding was suppose to be outside at a park - well the day of we wake up to guess what - rain!!! we figured it wasnt so bad because they were having it in a covered area - so me and the bms load up the bride and go to the park to find - NOONE THERE!!! the groom had moved it back to their room - but noone ever told me. so after a few harried phone calls trying to find out what is going on we go back to the office where he works to their room in the back - now mind you some 40 folks are suppose to be at this wedding in a room not much bigger than my bathroom. so they let them have the wedding in the lunchroom- mind you noone cleaned up in there after lunch- so we are cramming folks into a 4' wide by 6' long room - between the fridge and the tables and all that - it had to be one of the most horrendous things i have ever seen as the photographer was stepping all over us trying to get pictures of the bride and groom. i love my friend but i was seriously glad when it was over - because they moved it without telling anyone the food never arrived and half the guests got lost and never made it to the ceremony. it was one i will always remember -

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I went to my bosses wedding last July. First there were just cheese and crackers for cocktail hour. Then the Dj played barely any music the crowd really didn't dance much. If we wanted a alcohol drink we had to pay. I was just very bored. There was also barely any flowers anywhere. They never sent me a thank you for my generous gift.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Oh yes, just last weekend. My stepbrother got married at the American Legion in Lindenhurst. The ceremony itself was nice, it was in a catholic church in Bohemia. Except the bride was about 45 minutes late! And when they say you may kiss the bride, they made out like 10 year old children. It was absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all wanted to throw up!
Then onto cocktail hour at the American Legion! The placecards were wooden dolphins or anchors, painted blue or gray. They were written on with a sharpie marker, and if the messed up the table number or name, it was just scribbled out and written next to it! So Bad! Then cocktail hour was in the same room as the ballroom. They came around ONCE with horderves(SP?) And they consisted of chicken nuggets, pigs in a blanket, tacos........HORRIBLE! The alcohol consisted of tap bud, or boxed wine! served in plastic cups!
The salad was worse than salad in a bag, and it was warm! The Pasta was hard as a rock and the sauce was soooooooo thin! It tasted worse than befferoni with no beef! The food was ice cold and disgusting. The chicken was so hard, I could barely cut through it!
This was the worst wedding I have ever been to! And I feel bad because it was my stepbrother. But I think it could have been much better! I am so glad that my wedding was 1,000,000 times better than theirs. (I was tempted to take money out of the card.) We spend like 32,000 on our wedding! And now we are broke!

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I was MOH for a freind from college who when she got engaged decided on a 1 1/2 year engagement.. well with her FH in the military and possibly being shipped off to korea i get a phone call asking if i can be in Ohio in a week.. I have no money (im in college at this point) I have to go buy the bridesmaids dress from hell.. (November wedding in ohio, dress has no sleeves and open back ony connects top to bottom with a small chunk of fabric.. can someone say cold!) I take a 24 hour train ride to ohio (cant afford the plane tickets) with the only other member of the bridal party (she aslo has to were the same hideous dress) but the colors of our dresses clash (i'm dark purple she is pastel pink) the morning of the wedding we pull up to start setting up... the reception is at the PARTY BARN and has a cartoon picture of a pig with an apple in its mouth to attract customers.. we go in and they are mopping up the beer on the concrete floor from the HOEDOWN the night before... there are cartoon saloon pictures all over the walls and the seating is at TEAL picknic tables... how the bride got herself to sit at a picknic table i'll never know... The beer came out of spikets in the wall! the decorations were of crepe paper! what was on the menu you ask? SLOPPY JOES!!! or barbque as they say in ohio! the dj? there was none... the other bidesmaid and i played music we had with us on a boom box! Not kidding... I would have cried.... they did have a reception for their one year anniversary but honestly i laugh at it now because i dont think there could have possibly have been a worse wedding than that one.... tami

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
I wasn't there but boy did I hear about it... my FH's first wedding. Keep in mind his ex did all of the planning and consulted no one. It was her second wedding.
It was in a 'yacht club' in Huntington. It was no yacht club! It was a run down house near the water. The ceremony was held under a tree at the bottom of a hill. His grandfather and aunt and maybe more guests couldn't walk down the steep hill so couldn't see the ceremony. There were no chairs for guests to sit during the ceremony.
It was so trashy. To save money they did not have a photographer at all. Just cameras on the tables. THEY MADE MIX TAPES for music, no band, no dj. no real wedding cake, they got a sheet cake from Costco (cost $47 dollars). NO ALCOHOL because she was a recovering alcoholic and the food (lunch time meal) was finger food and no hot dishes.
I saw the pictures. Guests were crammed into a three season porch to eat. They had those porch windows with the leevers (sp?) that my grandma had on her porch back in the sixties. 'Dancing' took place in another room that had paneling on the walls from the 70's.
The bride did not wear a slip under her dress and her dress was right off the rack and wasn't altered. It didn't hang right on her.
I saw the pictures and was horrified!! I'm no Queen of the World bride but this was ridiculous. There are more stories but this is getting long.
Total cost for the day $2K. I guess you get what you pay for as it lasted only 2 years.
UPDATE: After some people's comments about cost. Trust me it wasn't the fact that they saved money, it was the fact that the bride did not take her guests needs or her husband's family's needs into consideration at all. She just did whatever she wanted. His family was embarrased and horrified not because it was a frugal affair but because it was tasteless. Who has a wedding at a site that is handicapped inaccessible yet invites at least three handicapped guests, doesn't serve an adequate enough meal for a day that lasted from 11 am to 5, does not provide chairs for a 45 minute ceremony and doesn't even wear a slip under her dress that was clearly see through and clinging to her legs? His family and friends were horrified and his mother and father were thoroughly embarrassed at the run down condition of the place... they had to walk passed a dumpster full of garbage on their way to the ceremony. Look I don't believe anyone should spend extravagantly on a wedding or over their budget but she was just tasteless and inconsiderate by cutting costs that afected her guests comfort. I'm not even going to get into the various lies she told to various family members. By the way my friends wedding costs the same but it was a small tasteful affair.

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
A wedding of a co-worker who has since moved away. It was upstate. They had no money, so they held their reception in a high school gym. They set up folding tables and chairs. There was no dinner, they bought hor deurves(sp?) from Wegmans. There was no liquor, because the bride is religious and was against it (I think). There was soda bottles next to the Party Platter straight from the store. They seemed happy, but I felt so bad for them. Thats gotta be the saddest reception Ive ever heard of

Re: Ever been to a really BAD wedding?
Oh yes, upstate... Cocktail hour consisted of pepperoni and cheese served on stryofoam plates and dinner was baked ziti again with the plates and plastic silverware. Favors - Seagrams 7 bottles with cowboy hats... This is what I drove 7 hours for. To top it all off, for my wedding, the couple gives a $10 frame bought from Target!

God, I hope this isn't true! Our wedding cost us only $2k and it was a dream come true. DH's first wedding cost nearly $100k and the marriage lasted 2 years. So I guess you don't always get what you pay for!
