Father/daughter songs?

What are you guys using?? perhaps this can be a thread with ideas?

I wanted to use this very traditional spanish song, but FH says that perhaps I should pick something in English, b/c most of my guests won't understand..

what are you guys dancing to, if you're doing this?

Re: Father/daughter songs?

The Way You Look Tonight, but the Tony Bennet version. I like the Sinatra version too, but it's faster and my dad has two left feet!

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Marcella I think you should use whatever you want to use. If the spanish song is what you like go for it, it is your dance with your father.
For our first dance we used an Italian song and I thought that some people wouldn't understand and I had second thoughts. After that I decided I didn't care and I received many compliments on the song we used.

Edit to say: I danced with my brother and used I Turn to You by Christina Aguilera.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Alot of my guests won't understand it but to tell you the truth my song will be in Spanish b/c even though my Dad speaks, reads and writes English it has sooooooo much more meaning to the both of us to dance a Spanish song he played for me growing up. I say go for the Spanish one

Re: Father/daughter songs?

I agree with Latina511. You should use a song that's special to the two of you. No one else has to get it!

Re: Father/daughter songs?

I think music is beautiful in any language ... If you have a special song in Spanish ... go for it!!

Spanish music is Very elegant, BYW ... I wanted an old Italian song played, but I'm afraid my band would butcher it! I'm not sure what we're doing.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

My Baby You by Marc Anthony. This isn't one of the 'popular' songs for father & daughters but 1. Dad and I LOVE Marc Anthony 2. Marc wrote this for his daughter 3. The song makes me cry every time I hear it So the song has meaning to me.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Christmasbride...I went to a wedding that they had a band that played throughout the night. For the first dance the bride and groom requested that there the song for their first dance be played by the original record not by the band. You can also consider that also...just an idea.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Latina ... I was thinking that BUT I didn't think that they would go for it since vinnie & Mom will dance to one of theirs.

Do you think it will be weird if the band stops playing for a CD? Maybe I should get on finding a recording of it .... JIK! PS what song did you use?

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Same as Mistyeyed, Unforgettable , at least as of right now. I was also thinking Wonderful World (Louie Armstrong).

My dad and I have a 'different' relationship, and although I love Butterfly Kisses I just don't think it's appropriate for us. I wanted something that wasn't specific about father and daughter.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

MarcellaBella,

I have not decided on a song yet, but I wanted to say if you want to use a Spanish song- go for it.

As brides we are always consumed with making others happy, when in reality it is our day and should be about us.

Use the song that has the most meaning to you.

Let us know what you decide.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Christmasbride...we used Vivo per Lei by Andrea Bocelli.

For the wedding I went to the bride and groom also did a second dance (This I promise you) and they had the original record playing not the band. I did not think it was weird at all.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Betty- When I heard the lyrics it described my father to a t. i think it s a perfect song for father/daughter. the reason you think its more romantic is bc of how it was used in the movie up close and personal.

Re: Father/daughter songs?

Butterfly Kisses makes me cry when I hear it. If it were my wedding day and I was dancing with dad forget about it.
