My parents are divorced and I lived with my mom. All the songs I hear are all about 'watching you grow up' and 'how much you look like your mom now' and stuff of that nature. I don't think any song like that fits my situation. Anyone have any good ideas for songs that are appropriate for father/daughter dance w/o all of that stuff?

Re: Father/Daughter Dance...
I went to a wedding where the bride danced with her dad to 'Because you Loved Me' by Celine Dion and I have to say, that out of all the weddings I've been too, watching that dance was the most emotional of all!
Also, 'Wind Beneath My Wings' is a good one too (sorry Lori )

Re: Father/Daughter Dance...
I'm using Daddy's Home, the words aren't really that appropriate (not that they are inappropriate), but my Dad would always sing that line when he walked in the door.

I turn to you by Christina Aguilera is nice, but might be a bit much...come to think of it, I second the nomination for 'the way tou look tonight'!

I am using You Lite Up My Life by Debbie Boone because I used to sing that song to my dad when I was little.

I think 'The way you look tonight ' is nice. I love Rod Stewart's version.

I have no idea what I'll pick but Butterfly Kisses is out because of that 'you look like your mom' line, so I know how you feel!

Eric Clapton.....My Father's Eyes
I think that's the name. I have the same situation, it is a very nice song. Good Luck on the search!

Re: Father/Daughter Dance...
I was thinking of using 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder. However, I don't know if there are any lines in there about watching you grow up. I got that idea somewhere on LI Weddings. If that song is not appropriate, then I vote for 'The Way You Look Tonight.'

Isn't She Lovely Lyrics -Stevie Wonder
Isn't she lovely Isn't she wonderfull Isn't she precious Less than one minute old I never thought through love we'd be Making one as lovely as she But isn't she lovely made from love
Isn't she pretty Truly the angel's best Boy, I'm so happy We have been heaven blessed I can't believe what God has done through us he's given life to one But isn't she lovely made from love
Isn't she lovely Life and love are the same Life is Aisha The meaning of her name Londie, it could have not been done Without you who conceived the one That's so very lovely made from love

I'm using 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong.

Re: Father/Daughter Dance...
Thanks, MissLinda, for the words to 'Isn't She Lovely.' My parents are also divorced but they had joint custody, so my father did watch me grow up. But it sounds like at the end of the song Stevie Wonder is paying a tribute to the mother of the child. That's what I interpreted. Maybe I need to find a new song - nothing too slow.

Re: Father/Daughter Dance...
Julybaby,
How about 'MY GIRL'
The Temptations My Girl Lyrics
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it's cold outside I've got the month of May. I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My girl (my girl, my girl) Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
I've got so much honey the bees envy me. I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees. I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My girl (my girl, my girl) Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
Hey hey hey Hey hey hey Ooooh.
I don't need no money, fortune, or fame. I've got all the riches baby one man can claim. I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My girl (my girl, mt girl) Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day with my girl. I've even got the month of May with my girl
There are places I'll remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places have their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more In my life I love you more ______________________________ Landslide, Stevie Nicks I took my love, I took it down Climbed a mountain and I turned around I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills 'Till the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky What is love Can the child within my heart rise above Can I sail through the changing ocean tides Can I handle the seasons of my life
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you get bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down Climb a mountain and turn around If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down. ________________________________________ Sophie B Hawkins As I Lay Me Down
it felt like spring time on this february morning in a courtyard birds were singing your praise i'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright i carried them with me today now
as i lay me down to sleep this i pray that you will hold me dear though i'm far away i'll whisper your name into the sky and i will wake up happy
i wonder why i feel so high though i am not above the sorrow heavy hearted till you call my name and it sounds like church bells or the whistle of a train on a summer evening i'll run to meet you barefoot barely breathing
as i lay me down to sleep this i pray that you will hold me dear though i'm far away i'll whisper your name into the sky and i will wake up happy
oh darlin' as i lay me down to sleep this i pray that you will hold me dear though i'm far away i'll whisper your name into the sky and i will wake up happy
it's not too near for me like a flower i need the rain though it's not clear to me every season has it's change and i will see you when the sun comes out again
as i lay me down to sleep this i pray that you will hold me dear though i'm far away i'll whisper your name into the sky and i will wake up happy repeat twice
when the sun comes out again i will wake up happy this i pray
