My fiance god daughter (niece) is 9 years old. she will just turn 10 for our wedding. (she is short for her age)
a few mos ago, her mother(FSIL) assumed we were making her a jr BM cause her cousin is doing that for her wedding. i said i wasnt sure at the time.
so when i showed her the FG dress I liked friday, she appeared upset saying it was too childish & it will make her look fat, she can only wear A-line dress (she has a baby fat belly, which is still cute at her age) and that i should have her in a modified version of the BM dresses (which i dont feel would be age appropriate IMO) I informed her nicely unless she has a growth spurt in the next 7mos she will be SR FG and in charge of the other FG & RB and my train. i thought giving her extra responsibilities will make her feel more grownup at least. i feel I picked a cute dress, that is age appropriate I really dont want 3 different dresses. I am very confused by the JR BM thing, thought it was more of a teen role. Am i wrong? how would you handle it? am i turning into a bridezilla?? attached the drama dress lol

FG vs JR BM Drama lol
When we took her out to thurs, I asked her, showed her a few dresses she liked that one the best. We saw her mom the next day and she seemed shocked. She just assumed we were using her as jr bm just cause her cousin who's wedding is after ours is. She isn't the shy type. She would've said that her daughter isn't happy. Now the mom already set ground rules. She isn't allowed the bridal suite or limo just incase someone uses foul language. If she can't play with the big girls she will end up just feeling more left out. She loves little kids, she's a caregiver type personality. So I feel being SR FG will suite role that role the best. She is in charge or the 5 & 8 yr old. And also my train. I'm not going to have her throw petals. Maybe a cute here comes the bride sign? I'm still confused about this jr bridesmaid thing maybe cause I'm an older bride and 15 yrs ago no one really did that. Least in my experience. I feel a kid should be a kid. Why are we rushing to make her into a teenager. She has time for that the rest of her life. Thx for your inputs, I guess I'm the bridezilla in this scenario. So I know and can tell her it's just my preference. Not etiquette lol

I think the role is perfectly appropriate, but I think its the dress that may not be age appropriate. Even the same dress in a solid print/color instead of the embellishments would make the dress more age appropriate for a 9yo. JMO. Good luck!

I agree that the role is appropriate however, I do not think the dress is IMO. I was more developed at 10 and I wouldn't want to wear a dress like that. I also agree that she might not feel comfortable being honest with you. If she's going to be a Sr FG and have more responsibilities maybe you should have her wear a more age appropriate dress that is different from the other FGs.

Lol I see the problem. Y'all don't know me that well I love pink, glitter and anything that sparkles and if they made light up sneakers in a size 10, I would buy a pair tomorrow. My current purse in rotation is a coach blue sequins backpack. And I still wear pigtails and I rock them lol My wedding dress is going to be a princess type, ball gown with lots of bling. I may be in my 30s but I'm a 12 yr old at heart. it's just a matter of different personalities and preferences. Now I don't expect you all to know that, but my family and future family should. That's why I guess my sister and FI don't see the issue, they don't expect anything different from me.

You asked for our opinions and it seems like you really didn't want them, you just wanted us to agree with you. I think you have decided what you want to do as far as making her a SR FG and having her where that dress.

I strongly disagree. Everyone opinion helped me greatly. As I stated in a much earlier post, I see that it's me being a bridezilla and least now I know it's my preference and that I can't be offended or upset by the mothers request. So I feel I accomplished what I was looking for. Thanks again guyz, helpful as always!

HaHa I am the same way. My mom always says oh it has sparkles on it so my daughter will love it!

I think the dress is not age appropriate. It looks like a little kid (ie 5 year old) FG dress. I definitely think that if you don't want her in a BM style dress, you should pick something more appropriate for her.
