:( hope he feels better. My dad has diverticulitis his was so severe and also went undiagnosed that he had to have surgery it was so bad. At least he knows what it is and they are treating it. Diet changes help majorly, no nuts, corn, seeds, limit caffiene, and meat anything hard to digest and breakdown for the body. My dad hasn't had a flare up since and digestion issues have been slowly going away along with losing 20lbs. Hang in there.

Thanks everyone, it's been a tough road for my family since that damn Nemo blizzard. My dad had a quadruple bypass, my cat had to be put to sleep and now this, just really seems like bad things DO come in threes. Thanks for all your support, he still can't eat or drink but is on a much better pain management schedule and feeling better as far as the pneumonia goes. We're just taking it day by day and I'll keep y'all posted

oh no!!! I hope he feels better....my dad had a severe diverticulitis attack in 2009....he now suffers from acute diverticulitis and gets a flare up about once a year...

after he is out, FM me if you need any good dietary guidelines. I have some from when my dad was initially diagnosed and the changes in his diet helped significantly!!!

Which hospital is he in? I wonder if he's with any of my docs??

He's in Brookhaven right now since it was the closest hospital to us. Had we known it was this serious I think we would have gone somewhere else. They have GREAT nurses but not such a great surgery rep so if he needs surgery (hopefully not) I think we'll be switching to Stony Brook. I don't know his Drs name off the top of my head but we've been happy with them so far. Where is your office?

We have a practice in Patchogue and they work out of BH and they also work out of St. Cath's.

if you need a good GI doctor for the stomach concerns- Dr. Persky in East Setauket is an amazing GI doctor and you can't go wrong with him!!!

Hope he feels better! My dad also has diverticulitis. He had to have surgery a couple years ago as well. He can't eat any nuts, he has to make sure there are no seeds on his buns or bread. He hasn't really had any problems since he changed his diet.

Thanks ladies for everything. Another update: he is starting to feel less pain in his stomach and is starting to cough up all his nasty phlegm from the pneumonia. He should be starting a clears diet tomorrow and they're thinking he'll be home Monday night or Tuesday but we're taking it a day at a time.
It's so hard to sit back and watch, especially since I'm in nursing school and I just want to jump in and take care of him lol. It's so different when it's someone you love.

I'll keep you all posted! Thanks for all the support, it's comforting to know we're not alone out there.

You are an amazing woman and FH is lucky to have you. He's in good hands now at the hospital and receiving proper treatment. I'm sure he has other family and friends stopping by too. I know it's hard, but focus as much as you can on your classes. I know from family, nursing school can be tough. Just remember, all his needs are being attended to while he's there. Just open your loving arms for him when he comes home.
