FH is very sick!! Help!!

Here we were last night, after I got home from Hollie's, and then we decided to drink a little bit of alcohol. (Neither of us has a high tolerance since we rarely drink). He has 1 small glass. I had the same.

About a half hour later he's loopy and lays down. He now has the shivers, and I check his temperature and it's low. 96.7. I'm thinking it will pass, and he'll be ok.

I check him again another half hour later. Now he has a fever. It's 100.9. He gets up and says he's not feeling well and goes to the bathroom and throws up for a good 5 minutes. I check up on him and he's sitting on the floor looking lost. I tell him to get back in the bed. He's still has the chills, but falls asleep.

He gets up before me this morning and goes to the store. He comes back and passes out saying he feels weak. I take his temperature again. 102.5. This isn't looking good, so I give him some aspirin and some Gatorade. I told him if it gets much higher, we're going to the hospital. I checked him just now. 103.1. He seems more alert, but the fever is getting higher!! At what point should I rush him to the hospital? I've never seen him like this in all the time we've been together!!

Call the emergency # for your PCP...tell them what is going on. If you cant get them, take him to the hospital. Its better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!

i agree - especailly with his fever flucating so much

I'd take him to the hospital. I hope everything is okay and he feels better soon.

i'd take him just to play it safe since it keeps going up and down

Actually it hasn't been fluctuating or going up and down!!!

His temperature has only been going higher!! It hasn't gone lower at all!!

Me too - I always think it's better to just get something checked out, just to be safe.

I hope he feels better soon!! Its always better to be safe and at least talk to a doctor.

Give him xtra strength tylenol and encourage fluids. If that doesnt help give him motrin (ibuprofen)

Actually, I've heard you should never take asprin when you have a fever or if you are under 16...

Tylenol and aspirin are different. tylenol is an antipyretic for decreasing temperatures. aspirin can also lower fever but tylenol works best. tylenol can also be harsh on the liver and should only be taken as directed but you can alternate with motrin. I dont wanna sound like a know it all but, a lot of people think think they are the same.

OK just checked his temperature and thank God it is going down now. It's down to 101.5. That and he's walking around asking what's for dinner, so I guess he's feeling a little better!!

Thanks ladies for all of your support!! I'm going to keep an eye on him just in case, it might just be a 24 hour bug.

No, I was agreeing w/ you! She said she gave him aspirin, and I know 2 people who have died that was. (they were both under 16, but my doctor also told me never to take aspirin w/ a fever) Actually, I've also heard that you could combine the tylenol and motrin.

Must have been a 24 hr bug. He's back to normal now!! Just took his temp and it's a very normal 98.6. That and he said he feels better. I don't know what he ate out of the ordinary other than some cake I brought home for him from the baby shower I went to!! Could it have been a reaction?

Did he have a rash at all? It could have been a reaction to something in the cake. Is he allergic to anything?

Good thing is he's feeling better now.

HOw terrible & scary. I'm so glad he's feeling better. How weird, maybe it was an allergic reaction to something.
