Flower Centerpieces - UPDATE at Bottom!!!

Original post by ewickens

I'm getting married at the Brentwood County Club and they offer their brides a full wedding package, including the florist.

I met with the florist today and I'm torn. I'm not all that big into flowers - never really have been b/c I never got them, but since joining this web site, I see people's CP and Bo-Q's and how people respond, so I wanted to ask you all a question.

This is the CP that comes with the package.

It is daisies and mums - you can choose an assortment of colors, or choose one color. We chose ivory assortment of the two flowers, instead of pink, blue, yellow, or lavender.

However, I love roses!! I saw these at the showcase and fell in love with them, but my one concern: their height. I felt the guests wouldn't be able to see across the room when they were standing up. If I did a dozen red roses, it would be $15/table extra and we're having 14-15 tables.

I'll be carrying red rose bo-q, my MOH will be carrying a red and ivory rose bo-q and my BM will be carring ivory rose bo-q. The table cloths will be ivory with intricately laced design woven into them.

What would you do?

my FMIL went to a wedding two weeks ago at BCC and she said she did not care of the cylinder high pieces. she said that you couldnt really see the people across the table and that it was far to big....They were very wide and she said you couldnt appreciate the flowers.....

I like the roses...because you can see the flowers more than the mums and daisies according to the pics here.

that was one thing she said...that you couldnt even see the flowers...I would go with the roses

We would choose the metal vine (pictured with the mums CP) instead of the cylinder that is pictured for the roses. Plus, my picture shows I believe a dozen and a half, and FH and I would only do a dozen, so it wasn't too spaced out.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Flower Centerpieces - UPDATE at Bottom!!!

UPDATE - I had a long conversation with FH this morning b/c he knew I wasn't happy when I got home from the Florist yesterday with my mother. So, he asked me what I wanted and I said I like the roses, but we would have to pay for them, and he said that we couldn't afford to throw $300-400 away on each of these vendors for each little thing I wanted.

So we made an agreement. We're not going to hire a second photographer to take more candids and shots of each of the guest tables. We're going to hope that by placing the disposable cameras on the tables with the scavenger hunt, that guests will take pictures of each other for our wedding memory album.

FH said we could spend the extra money on the roses, so everything would be in tune with one another with the theme of the wedding b/c he said he liked the roses better too.

One less thing to worry about.

I would go with the roses.. they are gorgeous.. and so classy..

I vote roses. I am doing a tall CP with a glass vase also, and it is still thin enough that I don't think it would be too distracting. Maybe you could put some greenery or something in the vase to add to the effect!

I think the roses are worth the extra $15 - definitely a beautiful CP!

i agree... I would also see if they could use fuller roses and less green.

have u ever consider using lower rose cps.... if so then it probably wouldn't have as much space.

Betsy-

I love the roses and was about to post that you should get them. However after reading this update, I would say stick with the cp that they are giving you and hire the second photographer. IMO, I think the second photographer is more important than flowers. Flowers will die in a few days but the pictures will last forever. If you rely too much on the disposables, you may be really disappointed. I don't want to see you sad because of this. I am not trying to upset you... just trying to be honest and give you my opinion.

I agree with Hollie.

This is very true. I spent about $100 on 20 disposable cameras for each of our tables, and probably close to $100 for developing the film. When I got the pictures back, out of the nearly 300 pictures that came out, I'd say MAYBE 25 of them were good pictures. Turns out, my husband's 10-year old cousin went around to EVERY table and cutely asked if she could take their cameras to take pictures. Of course, since she is so cute, everyone said yes. So we have about 275 pictures of closeups of wallpaper, closeups of tablecloths, closeups of the back of chairs, etc. It was horrible.
Spend the extra money on what really matters-- the memories of your special day. Things will go by SO fast and you will hardly remember any of it, so it's nice to have an extra photographer to document your day.

I like Hollie's suggestion - and we're going to see what happens as the wedding gets closer. Maybe we'll have the extra $300/400 for the extra photographer and I'd be able to get both, but we're still 3 months away, so we'll see. First, I think it will depend on how many guests RSVP that they're coming. If more say No to traveling in for the wedding, then I think I'd be able to convince everyone that this 2nd photo. guy is reasonable.

The rate is reasonable, right?

Oh man....splurge the extra 15 per table for the roses!! Well worth it IMO!!! Height is fine and don't worry, people will be able to talk and really won't be in the way...after all...after dinner,,, everyone will be up dancing

who do you have to convince? is it that you and fh arent paying for it and have to ask for the $ from parents? i think i am not understanding correctly. i would definitely go for the 2nd photographer over the roses. why did you want to hire the 2nd photographer in the first place? if you dont think you will be satisfied with your main photoprapher, i wouldnt chance it. best of luck in whatever you do! ~Lacey

My parents are being generous enough to pay the bottom line of the wedding costs with a little help from my FH's parent's. FH and I have to pay for the Church and anything associated with it. The 2nd photographer would be hired to come in for the reception to take candid shots (the first one is for all the standard shots) and take pictures of each of the guest tables as we have a fair few of guests who are sick and making it to the wedding as their last jaunt in public and I want to make sure they get captured in our wedding memories. However, I was caught on what would be better - the flowers or the photographer based on other people's experiences - the reason for the post.

I would do the roses. Dont be concerned about people being able to see across the table when they are standing. It is easier for your guests to be able to see acorss the table when they are sitting. The roses would look beautiful

Betsy, there is quite a difference in look with both centerpieces. The roses are beautiful and I would upgrade.

The heigth is not really important when talking about people standing up. It is mainly important when sitting that the table. CPs have to be either low or high so you can see people across the table.

ETA: is there some 'negociation' possibilities with BCC? Maybe $50 off.

I tried that, but with no success. Can't really complain with everything else they are providing!!

ETA: did you buy your slip? maybe you could borrow someone else's. I just gave one away that was given to me. It was used but I wash it a bit. I will use my sister's. My sister did not wear her veil either in the end so she is letting me use it. (I won't use it in the end but you get the picture!).

I would not cut the extra photographer either. Can you cut somewhere else?

Oh wait... you can take it out of the tip money!
