Flying First Class

Flying First Class

There was never a doubt in my mind that we would not fly first class on the honeymoon. We were going to buy coach tickets and upgrade with miles..

Now that we are looking into flights-- this does not seem to be working out.. Either flights are not upgradable, times are sh*tty, or the price difference in tix is not worth it..

But I REALLY want first class.. I just feel like the HM is the opportunity to go all out and and not 'expedia' every cost related to the HM. I have flown first class before- but for business or whatever. I just feel like our HM should be first class everything all the way..

Am I being a spoiled brat? FH does not necessarily agree with me.

not at all. I agree- you're honeymoon should be the best it can be (after all, it lasts a lot longer than the wedding itself, and we go all out for that). We are using points to go first class to Italy, but we decided what day we wanted to leave and booked it the first day available so that we had no problems with availability. (plus FH is a platinum flier on AA).

a lot of flights are 'not upgradeable' when you try to buy them online (discount fairs and whatnot), but if you call up the airlines directly, you can usually buy a fully upgradeable ticket on the same flight for only a little bit more money, and then you can use your points to upgrade. you should call to speak to someone at customer service. hope this helps.

We went this route- called the airline directly- maybe the person FH spoke with was an idiot.. We are in all the clubs, etc. Just everyone doesn't fly direct to where we are going- and we are also doing a multti-leg trip- to complicate matters more. I think we should just go through a travel agent.

personally, i'm not a huge fan of travel agents- but it certainly doesn't cost you anything to go and see if they can do anything for you. it's worth a shot- good luck

-you should post on the vendor's board. i'm sure you'll get a couple of emails from travel agents.

My sis was playing around with points and such to get an upgrade and was running into the same problem - the flights were bad and they were telling her she had to buy unrestricted tickets which were almost the same price as first class tickets plus she had to use 40,000 points for the upgrade.

Then she asked about using just points for first class tickets and needed 90,000 points. Which is what she how she booked her tickets.
