Just be thankful that she's doing black and not animal print. My FMIL saw a 'beautiful' giraffe print dress on Vanna White the other day and she was going on and on about how nice it was. I think she's trying to give me a heart attack.

Re: FMIL wearing Black...
I think black looks great (esp in pics!) I told my mom/FMIL I didn't want them to wear black but that was only because all of my things are shades of brown and copper and I didn't want them to clash. Otherwise, I would have been all for it.

mine is too!!!!! It wouldn't ordinarily be my first choice, but when she asked me, and told me she found the 'dress of her dreams' I couldn't say no. Then when I saw it, I was thrilled. Seriously......choose your battles. Even if you don't ideally want her to wear black, I'd let this one go. Its sooo hard to find a dress. If she found one she liked,,,,,,let her be happy.

Re: FMIL wearing Black...
Both my mother and FMIL have brought up the idea of wearing black...
my mother decided not to look for a black dress since many of our guests will be wearing black since we are having a winter wedding.
and my FMIL might still wear black- I don't have a problem with it at all.

My MIL did and honestly, it was a gorgeous dress and made her look great. Its a color that tends to be very flattering as well.

I think it depends on the outfit - if it's not a festive type dress (i.e., if it looks like a funeral outfit) then no. But if it's nice, personally I don't see a problem.
My best friend's mom wore a black gown with lace to her wedding and it looked very beautiful and elegant.
I completely agree. If its a nice elegant black, then its a-ok in my book..but if it looks like you're going to a funeral..then no. I am actually a big fan of black..I think its a very elegant color. My mom is actually thinking about wearing black..and I wouldnt mind at all.

I agree. FMIL tried on this dress today and really loved it! I knew she would be happy and feel beautiful wearing the dress! She looks elegant and if the woman who brought my Fh into this world wants to wear black I say go for it!
