We found a dog in Oceanside over the weekend, put up signs but haven't heard anything. I wanted to post his picture on here incase anyone knows of someone who lost a dog. He's so adorable! Thats what I was wondering....When my mom's can got lost my mom went to the same animal sheltar and they told her to come back in 1 week because they 'get rid' of some of the animals that are older that werent adopted so they can make room for new ones

Well if they think they're going to do that, they are sadly mistaken. I would adopt him before I'd let them do that. He's such a sweetheart.

I would suggest calling bide-a-wee (516-785-4079). They're a no-kill shelter in Wantagh. They could probably pick him up from the Wantagh shelter.
I wouldn't wanna see that baby not find a home...

OMG!!! I am a HUGE dog lover (Remember my 'Do u want kids' post...Answer '0, but lotsa doggies). Anyway, I really wish I could take him but I already have 2. You might want to double check b/c a shelter will Euthanize anfter a certaun period of time. Not unless they are a 'No kill shelter'. I hope someone takes him hme

Well if they think they're going to do that, they are sadly mistaken. I would adopt him before I'd let them do that. He's such a sweetheart.
Did you ask the shelter to call you if they don't find an owner for hm? This way you can be notified if they are going to euthanize him or not. He is so adorable. I hate hearing about lost animals and animals that are going to be euthanized. ugghh... I would adopt him but I am not allowed dogs in my development.

Did the shelter check to see if maybe he has a microchip?? Our dogs have them, that way if they get lost and lose their collars, the shelter/pound can run like a barcode scanner thing on them and get the owner's info.
If not, I think seeing if he can get moved to a no kill shelter would be the best bet. Or I know at PetSmart the people that they bring in to help adopt out animals typically have a no kill policy.
I hope he finds a good home!!! Or even better, his owners!!

Does anyone know what the period of time is? He only went there on Saturday and there's no way I'm going to let them put him down.

I think they usually only keep them for 5 days! I would call them like now and see if he is still there and if he is, inform them that you want to be notified before they decide to do anything if he does not find owner.

PLEASE call the shelter soon to find out if hes still there! its usually only about 5-7 days that they will keep them before they put them down... or at least call a no-kill shelter or a rescue to see if they can take him, if you don't want to adopt him...

i would call the shelter ASAP and make sure they put a 'do not destroy' claim on him. that way, if they're going to euthanize him, they'll call you first to give you the option of adopting him before they put him down. definitely call them.....NOW!

Thanks for all the info girls. I didn't realize they would only wait 5-7 days! That just seems inhumane. I contacted bid a wee and DH is going to call the shelter within in the hour. Thanks again.
