Fox Hollow, Harrison House,Vanderbit Manor
Does any one have any information on these sites? My fiance and I have been looking into mansion/historic home settings. We both live in NYC. He is British and would like a traditional backdrop to our reception. I have info from Harrison House in Glen Cove and will also be looking into Vanderbilt Manor on LI. I`m mainly interested in their average price, types of menus they offer and minimum requirement for guest count. I`m running into a problem with places wanting a 150 person guarantee. I`m, thinking I will fall around 120-130. Anyway, I`m posting here on the advice from someone on a different wedding board. I`m assuming this is a better board for advice on LI locations. I hope you guys can help me out. I`m trying to stay within a $20-$25,000 budget on the reception....preferably on the lower end of that range :) Thanks everyone. Susan

Fox Hollow
Hi. I am getting married at Fox Hollow July 4, 2002. The price really depends on what day and what time (afternoon/evening.) The season also factors in... I think a typical Sat afternoon wedding in the summer is about 79/pp++. I didn't look in to the evening affair because I already knew that we couldn't afford it. As for minimum guests...I have to guarantee 110 in the Wintergarden. Here is there site...check it out. Gives a great perspective. www.scottobrothers.com Hope this helps! Nancy

is that price just food, or everything for the reception? We looked into the HH, and we were quoted $175pp. Keep in mind the time of year and day you chose will effect your price. We also wanted that type of place for our reception, and looked all over. There are a lot of great places in NYC. Let me know if your interested. Continued success to all...

Thanks Heather and Nancy
The $20-$25K is for the food, tables, site fee, liquor...anything reception related except flowers and entertainment. In Manhattan I have info so far on 200 Fifth, and I'm waiting on info from Landmark Mansion and St. Bartholomew's. If you have any Manhattan ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

I was married in September of this year at The Mansion in Oakdale. It was LaSalle Academy, but now owned by St. John's University. It is a 100 year old south shore, Great Gatsby-esque mansion. They only one wedding a day and make you feel as though you are in your own house. They fit 100-200 people. I am not sure if they are doing weddings anymore. I heard they were changing their caterer, but if you have an opportunity, I would check it out.

Susans - 200 Fifth is amazing!
Just went to a friends wedding there and the food, service and atmosphere were great! I am not sure about the price but I know that with tip and tax she paid over $200pp. It was definitely the best wedding I have ever been to. If you really want LI you should also look into the Deseversky House on Northern Blvd in the Brookville area. I have seen pictures of a wedding there and it only holds less than 150. The couple gets the whole mansion to themselves for the weekend including sleeping in the master bedroom suite - looked fabulous! I wish I had a smaller family - much better mansion like choices when you have less guests!! Good luck!

200 Fifth
The thing with 200 Fifth: The menu looks great, one of the few city sites that offers stations as part of cocktail hour...but they need a guarantee of 150. I wouldn't mind the $200 per person if I could bring my head count lower. I have to have a buffet style cocktail hour. The problem with a lot of the mansions adn city locations is that they don't give you the massive amounts of food during cocktail hour, the way the catering halls do. For $140 per plate, I don't want my guests to be HUNGRY!! :)

Harrison House-quick question
Do they do a buffet style cocktail hour in addition to bultered h'ors d'oeurves? I haven't received any prospectives but I did speak to the assistant banquet manager. She couldn't really tell me any info on menu/reception styles...just pricing.

Harrison House
Just a note on the Harrison House. The off-season months (Jan-Mar) are definitely cheaper. I was quoted $110/pp for a Friday night with 125 minimum.

Vanderbilt Mansion
My FH and I just booked the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College (it`s off exit 45 on the Southern State). The place holds a max of 150 guests - and for a Saturday we had to guarantee 125... Anyway that was plenty for us (I would have been happy with just 100 - but I felt strongly about holding the reception on a Saturday Night). Anyway - for 125 people, with the cheapest package (which includes stuff like valet parking and 15 passed appetizers & a cheese/raw veggie and antipasto station) it`s costing us just under $20,000 (that figure includes all service charges, tax, etc.) I`ve never been to a wedding there before so I`m hoping the food is great. The location is beautiful - and expensive though it is, compared to other mansion/historical locations we looked at in LI - the proce was -reasonable- (plase note - my definition of reasonable has changed ENORMOUSLY since I began planning a wedding...) Hope the info helps - good luck!

Vanderbilt Mansion
I just received pricing from Vanderbilt, and you're right...the prices are pretty reasonable...plus there's the 'elaborate cocktail hour' option which provides buffet stations. I'm a bit bummed out though, because I'm not sure if the distance would be a reasonable drive from Manhattan :( I think it's about 1-1 1/2 hours...by the time I get there from the church, I'll be a wrinkled MESS!! :(Welcome New Vendors
