Okay, so I WAS excited to do my hotel block - now I don't know....
Got an email back about our blocks and was told that for October 2013, the discount rate will be $199. That's the HIGHEST number I've seen anywhere on these boards and it's more than a little off-putting. I know the hotel is amazing and has great amenities, but it's too much to ask guests to pay - especially because most of FH's family is in NY, just from wayyyy up, so they shouldn't pay so much to not even truly 'travel' if that makes sense.
I know a lot of brides have mentioned that Ray is great and really works with you -- did anyone have to bargain him down? I hate bargaining, because I'm bad at it and I never know how to not offend people, but I'm willing to try anything you all can recommend. I really really realllllllllyyy want to get my block there, but if they can't even do $179 I'm going to go through Executive Inn I guess.
Super bummed Please help me out - what would you all do/have you done??

I know emailing is a lot easier but you might want to call. I called Ray and got a cheap rate (still have to have 60% booked but most people are coming for the weekend so they'll be booking for friday and saturday) I would just call and explain you got other quotes but since you are getting married at Fox Hollow that you would like to have the room block there if they can come down in the price.
I initially wanted to call, but sent the email thinking he could just give me some info about the guest stuff like check-in, breakfast, etc to fill our moms in. When he came back with that number though, I got really annoyed, so now I'm afraid of calling because I don't want to let my b i t c h out lol and I have a hard time reigning it in. It's such a dumb thing to be annoyed about. I've been raving about the hotel to the future in laws for so long and now that they want to know details, if I come back saying $199 a night I'm going to look ridiculous.
if you didn't email him yet you could always add in that you know a couple of other people getting married at Fox Hollow and they got cheaper rates and if he could come down on the price a little you would def. go forward and book the block. It might give him a push to work with you if you're willing to book the room block soon

Thank you all so much for your help & input - I did actually cajole (read: beg) FH to try and put on his fiance pants and help me out but he hates dealing with people. I think he's too used to seeing me handle my lockdown classes full of gangs because he thinks I don't need help lol.
I'm going to email Ray back, does this sound appropriate and non-bridezilla?
Hi Ray,
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I loved the information about the Inn; it's given our families a lot to look forward to. My only concern is the nightly rate. We are also considering another hotel in the area, but they offered a rate of $170 a night. I was wondering if it's possible to match this at the Inn - I'm really looking forward to having our families together in one place for the wedding and post-reception celebrations. (and then I don't know how to end it here/what else to say)
Thank you so much for your time, Diana
I think that sounds good and you're not asking for anything unreasonable. I personally would be able to negotiate better through an email opposed to the phone also, so this would be my pick!

Well you already have a back up plan thats good. Maybe run it by the people who will be staying at the rooms? I would make an appointment to see Ray and bring fh. My fh and I try to work off each other. I am a push over. If thats the price thats the price. I've noticed that vendors always look at us brides for approval. I always stay monotone and look at my fh like ahhh. They he will talk then look at me like ahh then I go. We are working on our skills together! Maybe that will work for you two? It has for us. But honestly tell them what you want.

Re: Fox Hollow Inn Help!!! Bummed :(
I did text my BMs before, and asked my 2 closest friends at work - the BMs all said that they'd love to split a room for the night before, but for the night of they'd rather pay less at the other hotel which ******. One of my friends said she'd pay whatever, and the other said 200 would be a lot, and if he couldn't be next door to the venue he'd probably just drive he and his gf back home after the reception - at 6 Our families won't pay the 200, foot down: my mom thinks anything over 150 is awful, and FH's parents haven't ever traveled and stayed over for a wedding so they think they shouldn't even be paying period but that's a different story lol.
I'm the hardass, he's the pushover lol. It's hard to make an appointment bc we live and work in the Bronx. this weekend we're booked, next weekend is e party, and travel during the week is pretty much out. Sucks so much! I think I'll call and just say exactly what I planned to email.....170 or nothing.

My friend got married at Fox Hollow. I agree their hotel is VERY expensive. She did her hotel block at the Best Western Woodbury Inn. I'm not sure how much the block was but I dont think she had any issues with them. Definitely check em out.

Definitely look at other hotels in the area. Executive, Best Western, Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn Jericho
They are all much cheaper

Re: Fox Hollow Inn Help!!! Bummed :(
I think your e-mail was appropriate. Look, everyone is aware that we are all strapped for cash. I would be really surprised if he didnt come down on the price knowing this. I spoke with Ray a few weeks ago & he quoted us $189 a night for the last weekend in Sept 2013. I thought it was reasonable since I knew the prices for this September are $269 or around there.
Wait & see what he says. If he doesnt come down, then personally I would block 10 rooms there & 10 rooms at another hotel that offers the cheaper rate, free shuttle & breakfast. Keep in mind the 60% includes the night before & the night of the wedding. So if you have 6 rms blocked between the night before & the night of, you would be fine. Just be sure to read the policy at the other hotel as well. If you dont think you will have that many guests then you will have to make a decision between the two hotels.
Dont be afraid to negotiate! I worked in purchasing & became used to doing it for work & then when it came down to the wedding I was intimidated. Just remember, always be sweet as pie & say 'It's a little more than our budget, are you at all flexible on the price?' worst case...they say no. Usually, prices are set higher so there is flexibility. And of course this is within reason. There are certain things that are what they are. Do your research on other vendors prices etc. The way I see it, why pay more for something you know you can pay less for? Hope this helps. Good luck! And keep us posted!!
