freezing/thawing/freezing chicken?

so I bought a 5 lbs pack of chicken breasts...but didn't have time to separate them. so I threw them in the freezer...

can I thaw the whole thing and then refreeze what I don't need?

I wouldn't re-freeze something that has already been thawed out (unless it's already cooked, of course)... I don't know exactly why, but my mom always told me never to do that.

any suggestions how I can get just a little bit of the chicken out? or am I going to have to cook all of the chicken?

I wouldn't do it either Is it chicken peices, or cutlets? If it's pieces, it might not be so hard to try and seperate with a knife or something to pry the pieces apart...????

they are cutlets...

all I could find on the internet was that you should not refreeze chicken that has been defrosted by cold water or microwave...they didn't mention either way about if I did it in the refrige...


I think I am just going to have to cook the entire thing and then freeze the cooked chicken

Yeah, never refreeze chicken. Don't know why, but I also don't think it's worth finding out!

I think you're not supposed to refreeze b/c of possible bacteria issues...
