With a years notice, would you rather attend a Friday night wedding or a Sunday night? I was thinking of trying to set the ceremony for around 3:00 ish....then 2 hours for pics....5:00 cocktail hour....party should end around 10:00...what do you think?

Re: Friday or Sunday?
we are getting married on a friday night the ceremony starts at 630 pm. Sunday was actually more expensive... and I've always liked it when the sun goes down at the actual wedding

Friday night - sunday nights are tough because people have to start a work week the next day...

I say Friday. People will have Saturday off so they can really have a good time without worrying about having to get up and work the next day.

I think if you want to start the ceremony at 3PM than Sunday is better, having it finished by 10 gives people enough time to get some sleep for work and they won't have to take time off to be at the ceremony.

Re: Friday or Sunday?
I think friday would be better because most people don't have to work the next day. If you were to do Sunday and it was during the day to me that would be better then a Sunday night. I had a Friday night wedding- church at 3, reception at 8:30 and no one complained (at least not to me)

I didnt vote for either- because I think that they are both fine- do whichever one is more convenient to you- if you are giving people a years notice there should be no problem

Thanks girls! You are all so helpful. I think you are right though. Whatever we chose, with a year's notice, the people closest to us who want to be there will be there, and the rest can take a flying leap. You can't please everybody, I know that. It's good to just get an idea of our possibilities.....

We are doing Friday also, we figured all the people that are going to be at the wedding that are our closest friends will take off that day and we did it late 5:30 Ceremony and we wanted the weekend to hang around and be with everyone and leave on our honeymoon on monday...also we figured everyone could rest on saturday and still have the weekend to get stuff done.

Im getting married on a Sunday night , I have been to many sun night weddings and all were soo much fun. I have been to two weddings on a Fri and I had to rush out of work, the other time I had to take off, its just crazy on Fridays, people getting out of work, traffic, etc etc. Sundays are more relaxed.
i agree! Our wedding is on a Sunday. Its more relaxed and you do not have to rush.

Re: Friday or Sunday?
here's the deal....if the reception is gonna end at 10, then sunday is not really an issue.. I got married on a friday which was great...but we had our ceremony start time at 5:00 - which made it really dim & romantic, plus our church was packed because most people were out of work already. My CH then wasnt untill 8:00 - but it totally worked 'cause we set up hotel accomadations. People rocked out, had a good time..and most stayed over. Those that didn't didn't care anyways 'cause the next day was saturday I loved the late start time 'cause it made it a very formal evening wedding in December. Either one can work as long as u work out the times. Bottom line, it's one day out of the whole year. People can take either a friday or a monday off of work if they need too. do whatever works best for u

I always like Sunday weddings - gives me an excuse to call into work sick on Monday from partying too much

Re: Friday or Sunday?
I'm getting married on a Sunday afternoon. My dad ruled out Fri night/Saturday afternoon because of Shabbat. That also made Saturday night difficult because a) Shabbat doesn't end until sundown so our ceremony would probably have to start at 8:30pm and b) price!
Sunday is easier because my fiance's family will all be flying in from out of state, and we have a lot of friends who will be travelling. My fiance will also be flying in since we live out of state while I'm in school, and this way he doesn't have to miss Thurs/Fri work. (He only gets 2 weeks vacation/year + floating holidays, and we don't want to take time off from the Honeymoon!). This way he can fly in Fri evening without having to worry --- he flew into NY the night before our e-party and his flight was cancelled! Instead of getting in at 7pm he got in at 4am... in Newark! That is not happening for our wedding.
Afternoon because I love natural light and daylight, and we picked a reception with lots of windows in the cocktail hour room and an outdoors area to walk around. It allows family and friends who want to make it to work the next day to do so (especially family who will have to drive 1-2 hours), leaves time for OOT guests to catch a flight if they really can't miss work, and leaves time for people to go out afterwards and continue the party if they want.
Hope it works out well -- we sent STD's a little more than a year in advance so hopefully the people who really want to be there will do so regardless.
