Friday's debate

Re: Friday's debate

It seemed like Bush wasted a lot of time trying to be funny, and I do mean TRYING!

Ok well if none of the Kerry nut-huggers here can at least acknowledge the fact that he mentioned the bad choices he made in some of his aidea... there is no point to even continue the conversation.

If the same question was directed to Kerry... he would have done the same thing.

Once again, I agree with you completely!
The fact that Bush couldnt' own up to one mistake really bugged me! I can admit when I make mistakes, why can't he?

He did admit that he'd made mistakes in some of his appointments but he wasn't going to embarrass the people by mentioning names.

I think he was right on the money when it came to his assessment that what's really behind that question is people wanting him to say going into Iraq and Afghanastan was a mistake.

if he had answered the question, i would have given him a lot of credit!
he didn't even answer the question!!!
how can i support someone who doesnt' understand a simple question?

I didn't want him to interpret the question...I just wanted him to answer it!

Believe me when I say that when he first started to answer the question... i agreed totally with you. He was dodgeing the question.

But he did complete the answer at the end by saying some of the appointments he made were bad choices. I was shocked as hell to hear that.

Don't you think if Bush really avoided the question... Kerry would have pounded him on that by saying 'You didn't even answer the question!'. Kerry realized Bush did admit to a mistake about the appointments. Bush also admitted the mistake to the WMD earlier in the debate.

At the end he was asked to name 3 mistakes....he spoke only about 3 things he did well that might be percieved as mistakes...not the same thing

Funny thing is, it's exactly how most people would answer the same question in a job interview. Questions like - 'name three of your weaknesses' always get the soft, BS answer.

I didn't see that as admitting to any mistakes.....I saw it as dodging the question.....

I agree.

DJ you are correct that towards the end he did admit to some of his appointments being wrong. See, I can admit when I make a mistake. I still however think that it was passing the buck a little. The question also asked for three. That was the only mistake he owned up too.

I disagree. I know my weaknesses and admit to them because that is how I can best try to fix them. Maybe I am weird, but I find that being honest not only with others, but with myself is the only way that I can grow as a person.

Yeah i'll agree he passed the buck a little.

But the above poster that said WE ARE ALL GUILTY of doing the same thing on that job interview when asked the infamous 'What are your weaknesses?' question. We always use this to toot our own horn.

It was a loaded question directed at Bush. I thought he handled it well and didnt dodge the question 100% like some of the Kerry nuthuggers would have liked.

If Kerry was asked the same thing you would have gotten the same result... and you would be LYING if you felt otherwise.

i also admit mistakes all the time...as a teacher, everytime I teach a lesson, I ask myself, what did I do well, what did I do badly...and then I fix those mistakes. Hopefully, over the years, there will be less and less mistakes

I started to watch but it gets boring after awhile. I guess Im not politically minded, but Bush did seem more organized this time.

The thing that annoyed me about Kerry is that he kept saying 'I have a plan for this and I have a plan for that' but he wouldnt elaborate. Whats the big secret??

I know, but you also have to realize that 2 min. is not enough time for either canidate to explain every nuance of their plans.

I was shocked that Bush admitted that he made mistakes in some of the people he appointed.

Talk about dodging a question, what about Kerry's answer to the question about how does a tax payer know that their money is not going to abortions when they are against abortions? All he did was talk about why he is pro-choice. He didn't even attempt to answer that question.

I hate both canidates and will probably vote for Nader but IMO Bush won this debate hands down.

I feel the same way and this is why I can't vote for Kerry. What is his plan? When is he going to tell us? Explain your plan already.

Then why bring it up? He should of had a brief speech planned on some of the basics rather than just saying 'I have a plan'

See, I felt that he was saying that it would be funded by the government because it is a constitutional right. I did think he was trying to answer the question without coming across too pro-abortion. And let's face it a women's right to choose is not currently illegal.

Well Mr. Kerry... if you want to win my vote... you better FIND THE TIME to explain how your magical plans are going to work.

This is why I like Bush. He actually reminds me of Clinton. You may agree or disagree with his values. But at least you know where he stands.
