Wow, I'm shocked at that. That was REALLY presumptuous!

I would tell her, 'I'm very sorry, but I've decided to pick out my own head piece, and I'm not even entirely sure I want to wear a tiara. Also, it's tradition in my family for the something old / new / borrowed / blue to all come from the bridal party or family. But thank you so much for the very generous offer.'

Does she know that you don't have a tiara yet? If she doesn't I would tell a little white lie that 'Thank you so much for thinking of me, but unfortunately I already have my tiara'.
Otherwise if she knows you didn't have one you could wait until tomorrow and say... Guess what... when I got home from work there was a message for me from my Mom saying she was so excited because she bought me a tiara today that will be perfect with my dress'
Good Luck!!

you can always say a family member purchased one without knowing you were given hers. nothing wrong with wanting your own!

Tell her that your Mom bought you one and you don't want to offend your mom.

Tell her you absolutely love the one she gave you, but your Mom would be so upset. Anyone would have to understand that,

Maybe she can exchange it for something you don't have, like a bag.

That's a tough situation,

how strange!! Its not like she is giving it to you to keep forever.. Why wouldnt you want your own!!!!

I would be honest and tell her that you think its sweet.. but you want to pick out and buy your own ..( that is part of the fun!.. ) and that you plan to keep yours to hand down to your daughter one day...

Its not like she is lending you a pair of earings.. its a major part of your look..LOL!!! How funny!
