From the 06'ers to the 07'ers

Original post by R&J0806

I remember last year around this time the 05'ers dropped a line to all of us 06'ers with advice, tips and love....I found it very touching and very helpful so....I thought I'd start something similiar for you 07 girls.

You're approaching the best year of your life thus far, so hang on to every second of it. It will fly by before you know it. I can't believe my counter says I've been married 135 days...it feels like just yesterday it was a count DOWN. (sigh.) My advice to you:

Take it all in -- I remember gasping when I saw my chuppah being set up. It was as beautiful as I could've wished for.

Stay with your hubby as much as you can -- people will pull you apart left and right. And despite my own attempts, I was still separated more than I would've liked.

Don't sweat the small stuff -- chances are, something will go wrong. But, I assure you, it will be so minor that nobody will notice.

I can't stress enough how much of a blur the day will be. I remember reading others post that and I thought 'yeah, right.'

Get a video! You won't regret it....it's worth every penny.

Here's to a great year for all of you...us 06 girls are here if you need us!

Here are my two cents:

This was mentioned already, but it bears repeating. You will be separated from you DH at the CH and reception as people grab you to talk and take pictures. FIND EACH OTHER. Try to experience as much of the day as you can together.

Dance together - something other than the first dance.

Sit down to dinner together.

Look around at all of your guests and take it all in.

Don't let the small screw ups ruin your day. Accept the fact, RIGHT NOW, that they will happen.

I received some great pictures via e-mail from my friends and family - consider leaving a little note at each table with your e-mail address asking guests to e-mail you any nice pictures that they take (I'm sure some creative gal can come up with a cute little rhyme for the occasion). It's cheaper than table cameras, and you will love looking at all the great candid and silly shots that your guests take.

thanxs so much,,

ya just gave me a new DIY inspiration,, the candid camera shot idea love it

Listen to your vows....the ceremony, for some, is the least thought of part; as a bride, we tend to think about the party. At the end of the day, the best part is listening to your new mate speak true words of love before God--whatever God happens to be yours.

Stay together. I always notice at weddings when brides and grooms don't seem to be spending much time together...and so does everyone else!

Stay calm. Have a glass of champagne in the morning!

Step back and look at your wedding...everyone is there to celebrate you and your love.

Along the way, long before the wedding, remember WHY you fell in love and are getting married. That wedding is just a party, and it's over fast, so realize what your life together will mean. It's NOT all about the wedding...even though it seems like that now.

TOTALLY.
Our ceremony was so much more powerful than I had even thought it would be before-hand..........and I *did* think it would be. I would get choked up every time I thought of it.

And then it was all that and more. Having a special moment alone with Dad before-hand. The priest's words were so beautiful. Hearing our friends and family members read and sing, hearing the organ music, saying the vows, putting the rings on, seeing the look in DH's eyes when I was crying and laughing thru my vows, the receiving line........being surrounded by SO much love.
it was definitely the most special and powerful part of the day.

Re: From the 06'ers to the 07'ers

Great post....

Definitely get a video - I haven't even gotten mine yet but can't wait to b/c I just want to see stuff and relive moments from that day!!!

EAT at your cocktail hour. People bombarded us and I never even got to walk into the CH room b/c of it - I felt like a celebrity or something being attacked by fans - No seriously just make sure you get to walk around and see and enjoy everything. Even if you just take a few bites of things here and there - try to enjoy it all!

If you have a monogrammed or custom made aisle runner...make sure you have the place set it down before the ceremony begins. This was my big mistake and only regret of the day. I had a gorgeous aisle runner hand painted with our monogram and date and the runner itself was somewhat thin material and I was afraid that DH's grandmother's wheelchair would rip it when she was wheeled into the ceremony........so I asked them to roll it out just for me. At this time all guests are seated and waiting patiently for the bride to walk down that aisle....well the place messed up and laid it down upside down and they taped it at each end so there was just no time for them to untape and flip it over....so they had to leave it. Luckily b/c the material was thin the photographer was able to flip it on the computer like a mirror image and you can see it just fine....but none of my guests got to see it the right way. I paid a lot of money for it and I was upset it got messed up but sort of feel like it was my fault b/c the place really wanted it all set up ahead of time.

Those are my only thoughts for now...GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!

Re: From the 06'ers to the 07'ers

I just thought of something else....

Wear your veil the entire day/night!
I never took my veil off - and was SO happy. In my opinion, a veil is what makes a bride a bride. Without it you are just a girl in a white dress...when else will you get to wear a veil! I felt so 'bridey' in my veil - did not get in my way or anything while dancing. If there is one thing I could tell all future brides it would be to keep your veil on all night long!!!
I had a cathedral length for the ceremony and pics and then took that off and kept on the elbow length for the reception. The cathedral length was on velcro so just pulled right off!

Good luck ladies!
