Re: garter (poll)
We are not because there won't be many single people at our wedding. Also, we think it's kind of dumb.

Re: garter (poll)
We did both the bo-k toss and the garter toss (I was all for the traditional stuff!) but we didn't have the guy who caught the garter put it on the girl who caught the bouquet.

We're not doing it...I hate being dragged on the dance floor of other weddings for the boq toss...and FH feels the same about the garter toss
agree

Re: garter (poll)
The anniversary dance is when all married couples get up on the dance floor and they get eliminated by years married. The longest married couple is left and they get presented with the garter and bouquet. I think its a beautiful gesture.

Re: garter (poll)
we are doing both, but not the 'traditional' way.
For the garter toss...ALL men will go up to catch it and whoever catches it gets a dance with the bride. And for the bouquet, all the women will go up and whoever catches that will have a dance with the groom.
We wanted to include this, because I did want him to 'go up my dress' ;) to get the garter, but we have only 2 single women and no single men, so the old way wouldn't really work.

That's a nice idea

We didn't do either (garter toss or bo-k toss) I had our parents and in-laws wedding song played for each of them and they danced to it. It was my parents 30th anniversary the week after the wedding. Dh's parents were married for 46 years so we wanted to acknowledge that someway. It turned out to be great. They loved it!
I like the anniversary dance, but we can't 'personally' have that at our wedding.
At FI's brothers wedding this past July, they did the anniversary dance, and FI's mom and dad got up and danced without really knowing what it was about at first. Mind you, they are legally separated and have not lived together for over 10 years! So they got up and danced, and before you knew it, the DJ was down to like 20 years and only 4 couples and his Dad tried to drag his mom off the dance floor, so they wouldn't be the winners, but it didn't work. They ended up WINNING! They had been 'married' the longest. 40 years that very day! (yes they got married on their anniversary). It was one of the most uncomfortable moments of my life and they aren't even MY parents. So FI and I decided this was something we would in no way shape or form do at our wedding :D
gotta love family.

I'm going to do it. I will have a handful of single people at my wedding. I think its one of those stupid/fun traditions of a wedding.
i agree, it's really up to what you guys want

I might wear a garter but am definitely not doing the toss. It seems like an outdated practice. I hated doing being dragged up there when I was single.

Re: garter (poll)
Ive been handed bouquets. I have caught bouquets. Both times I was forced to go up because I was one of the few singles at the wedding. It was embarrassing.
At the last wedding that I caught a bouquet, the corresponding 'garter catcher' was blatantly gay. I was miserable when we had to dance. Right after I caught it, my neice who was 7 at the time said to me:
'Aunt L., you will not get married next because YOU don't have a boyfriend!'
So when I asked her where I could find one she said: 'Well, you could look at the mall or maybe the bowling alley'
And I said 'If he OWNS the bowling alley, that would be fine, but if he just hangs out there, I am going to have to pass.' I love this kid!
I do like the bouquet idea but I dont like the garter thing.

Re: garter (poll)
i was going to do the anniversary dance until i saw pictures of throwing the bouquet off the balcony - so i have to throw one
but i am going to do it non-traditionally - i am throwing a fortune bouquet - from marth stewart - the bouquet will be made of four or five small bunches of flowers each with a fortune - martha says to write 'you will marry your neighbor' - instead i am going to write something for anyone - so any woman can catch it and will have them announce that it is the traditional bouquet toss
