Gift ideas for my assistant....

Original post by Kim921

I am not a huge fan of this girl but tomorrow is her 25th birthday. She is nasty and not very helpful, but I get the idea that it might be because I am younger than her and she reports to me. Anyway, any ideas? I was thinking about a spa gift certificate, but it doesn't really seem like her style. Any ideas??

Thanks girls....

I work in children's book publishing

Hmm, what do I want? I wouldn't mind one of those wristlets. What colors did they come in?

I think the one I posted comes in black and white, but there are tons of other ones too. Check out the site. www.coach.com in the search box on top put 'wristlet'

Let me know and I will get to emailing..lol

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

Ok, so I ended up getting my assistant the Coach Wristlet that I posted in a previous post and giving it to her on Friday. I was supposed to take her to lunch as well, but I got swamped and wasn't able to go out, but I promised her we would go today.

Long story short, she has invited her bf, and 2 of her gf's. Does this girl assume I will be paying for her 'crew'? She didn't ask me, she just said, 'X, Y & Z are coming to lunch with us.' Now what?!

you are taking her out - only. Let others come if they want, but pay their own way

I think she has nerve

tell her ' I thought it would be just us...' If you do wind up taking them and paying can you expense it? LOL

She has total nerve! That is another reason I don't like the brat! I got her a nice present and am voluntarily taking her to her favorite restaurant for lunch. Now she invites her bf and 2 friends? In a normal situation I would come out and tell her they better bring enough money cause I am not paying for them, but this is my bosses neice! I can't expense it, we get a budget every month and I have already exceeded June's budget..lol.

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

just go to lunch w/ all of them today, KIM but DO NOT Pay, tell her that you were going to take 'just her' out to lunch for her birthday but since everyone is going now that you and her will go to lunch, just the TWO of you another day
what nerve!!!

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

OMG this girl has no class !!!!
she's your bosses nieces ?? so she probably thinks she can get away with murder, even though shes your assistant, shes waving that 'power' that she has being family to the boss

I really dont know what to tell you. im sure theyre gonna order up the wazoo thinking youre paying and then say something like 'I dont have money' or 'I'll pay you back'...

i think its going to be totally uncomfortable (and totallu UNFAIR!!) for you to take out her little friendship circle ! they are milking you dry and taking total advantage.

what do you plan to do??

Kim, I think when you go today, everyone should split the bill and just take her out alone another day and tell her that
sounds like a brat!

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

I'd either do what tammyjill suggested - go today but take her out another day...or make it clear that you invited *her* to take *her* out for her b/day...and that you will only be paying for *her*. If anything, you can tell that to her 3 friends - I don't think you need to make that clear to her...just the tag-alongs.

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

this is really an uncomfortable situation. if you tell her 'we'll make the birthday lunch another time' she'll probably feel like 'well then dont bother coming today'
would she invite you on any other occassion (or no occasion) with this group to lunch?
I would cancel if i were you, or tell her ahead NOW, before you leave that you will do the bday lunch another time??.
ugh how rude of her !

i think the bag was plenty

Re: Gift ideas for my assistant....

Uck, I don't know what I am going to do. I think I will tell her to make sure her 'friends' have $$ because I am not paying for them. Let her go to my boss and complain. She might be his neice, but the man LOVES me! Maybe I will invite him to come and he will pay for us all...lol I can be just as sneaky.
