Does anyone know when they are going to go around to greet their guests? Are you going to do it at cocktail hour or at the reception? I was planning on going around after they serve the first course but only to the tables of the older people that I know will not get up. Everyone else I figure can come see me on the dance floor!! Is that being rude? It's just that my girlfrend had told me she missed her whole wedding because she was busy greeting people...what do you think ladies?

I am planning on doing it during the cocktail hour because I want to party with everyonelse and enjoy our day.. I feel like if I do it during the reception then I won't really have time to enjoy our selves

Re: Going around to tables?
The one thing my parents asked me to do was go around to tables. My first wedding we went to EVERY table. It took a long time, but most people (especially the older ones) truly expect it. We tried to keep it short, mainly the same q's (when are you leaving for your hm, you look beautiful, we're having a great time)--if one table was taking up too much time, we said we'd come back (but didn't). It took us about an hour or so.
Ideally you could go around during cocktail hour, but then you don't really know who you see/don't see b/c what if you see some people from a table, but not all?
Hubby & I basically each took a side of the table & everyone kind of talked to us at once.
This time I think we'll go around also, but our wedding is going to be smaller & we'll keep it shorter.

You make a good point! I was going to stay in my bridal suite for cocktail hour just for some time to collect myself. MY FI was probably going to greet people at cocktail. I guess I may change my mind on the day though.

I guess we will do teh meet and greet at our reception, not sure when, but its gonna be QUICK..we have gotten all kinds of pointers on it, to make it short and sweet and enjoy our food and our company, and the spotlight!!
sa07024---u really wanna spend that time in the bridal suite W/O your new hubby? I think we might mis a lot of cocktail hour for pictures, but I will not be apart from my New Hubby AT ALL after we say the 'I Do'!

Holly can you share your pointers???
My aunt was over the other day and said 'you know older people get very offended if you dont go around to each table'. This came right after me and my fiance decided to get a card holder mailbox to avoid having to go around!

Sometimes you can't greet everyone at cocktail hour, so you must visit tables.

Re: Going around to tables?
we did the receiving line, I was reluctant to do it but now I encourage others to do it. With that said, it was easier for us because our ceremony and reception were at the same place.

Re: Going around to tables?
Okay, so I was prob the rudest bride in the world!! I said hello to my side and some of the people on DH side during the cocktail hour. Many of the people on DH side I had never met b4. I was planning on going around with my DH to greet these people, but my DH is genetically incapable of keeping a conversation under 2 minutes. So I never did the meet and greet thing to his side during the reception. But DH did say hi to all on his side during the reception. I was on the dance floor all night!! Most of the older crowd got up and danced right along with me!!
But somehow I forgot to get a card holder (duh??) So all of my guests stood on line at the end to give there card and I greeted all of them then. And as far as I know no one has ever complained about it!!
People actually started to come up to DH and I during the last song and the BM shooed them away til it was over.
I was glad I did it!! I missed 2 songs the whole night taking pictures!! So I got to eat and dance the night away!! I truly enjoyed all of my reception!!
So in answer to your ? No I dont think it's rude!!

Re: Going around to tables?
Have your dj or band do a 'Meet and Greet Circle'. They have all the guest get in a big circle. Hubby goes clockwise and you go counter clockwise, and the band or dj makes a fun game out of it, to see who can make it back to where they started first. Not only do you get the whole meet/greet thing out of the way, but the dj/band keeps them there and starts the party off with a packed dance floor. Works like a charm, no hard feelings. Unless you have family that cant be on their feet, then go see them of course. But if they're up in the circle, your set!

Re: Going around to tables?
I plan on going around to tables, I feel I have to to thank everyone. However, I don't want to get stuck at a table for too long. So, when I went to my hall the other day I discussed it with the manager and I came up with a plan. I am going to have a signal for my bridal attendant. If I give the signal, she must come over and grab me to get me away from a chatty group of people. I know alot of the old folks in my family will want to chat my ear off, so I figure having a signal will ensure me a way out. The Bridal attendent will come and grab me and say I have to do pics or something. I want to enjoy my party and not stand at tables all night. I am also going to go to my coctail hour for the first 20 minutes just to get some hellos out of the way!!

Trust me it works like a charm. And...the guests have no idea what they are getting into, so they're not running away from the dance floor is they are not dancers.

Re: Going around to tables?
We scheduled enough time between the ceremony and CH to have pictures so we are going to spend half the CH in the Bridal Suite with our BP and then the other half of the CH greeting people. Then we will do a quick go around during the early part of the reception to make sure we go the people we missed. FI is really quiet so honestly its pretty much up to me to handle this (he will just follow in tow!) After that, whoever I miss, will have to find me! I refuse to spend all this money and not enjoy my reception!!!

Re: Going around to tables?
We are really trying to keep the guest list limited to close family and friends that we see on a regular basis. That being said we will not have to spend a lot of time catching up with people. We plan to greet people at the CH, so we can enjoy the reception.

Re: Going around to tables?
We didn't bother going to any tables and to be honest, I don't think any of my guests cared. I just watched how my girlfriend and her DH didn't get to enjoy their wedding because they were so busy going from table to table.
If you have a small, intimate wedding, then fine, but when you've got 150+ people, I don't think it's necessary. I'd much rather see the bride & groom enjoying themselves at their own wedding, than doing the 'meet & greet'.

Re: Going around to tables?
Personally, I think it is the right thing to do, but reasonably I am probably not going to do it. I will do my best and certainly visit the tables with the older people at them, but other than that I really want to enjoy the reception. I certainly do not get offended if the bride and groom don't come around to me. I always go up to the bride and groom, give them my card and get to chat with them there. I don't expect for them to have to spend their time coming to me. It's their day, I should cater to them !!

Re: Going around to tables?
You absolutely have to go around to the tables at least once. Then your parents should go around again. But I do like the idea of the song.

Re: Going around to tables?
I am definitly going to make it a point to at least make sure I say hello and visit with people wo came from out of state. They traveled all the way to see me at my wedding so I especially want to be able to tank them for coming. I am sure at some point throughout the night I will see everyone and have a chance to thank them!!
