Does anyone know when they are going to go around to greet their guests? Are you going to do it at cocktail hour or at the reception? I was planning on going around after they serve the first course but only to the tables of the older people that I know will not get up. Everyone else I figure can come see me on the dance floor!! Is that being rude? It's just that my girlfrend had told me she missed her whole wedding because she was busy greeting people...what do you think ladies?

Re: Going around to tables?
We are trying SOOOO HARD to get to the cocktail hour so we can visit with guests at this time, rather than do it at the reception. We are paying an arm and a leg for it and we should enjoy it to the fullest!!!

We went around during our cocktail hour. Then during our reception we went around again but kept it brief. It really didn't take us that long. We were still able to enjoy our reception.

You absolutely have to go around to the tables at least once. Then your parents should go around again. But I do like the idea of the song.
Why should our parents go around to the tables? Is that only if they are paying for the wedding? I've never heard of that, and frankly, wouldn't expect either my parents or his to go around and greet people, especially when they won't know half the people there. Just curious - never heard of this or saw it.

Re: Going around to tables?
We will going to each table during the reception for a quick hello ..we feel it's just the proper thing to do..it can be just 2 minutes of your time...I don't feel that's a big deal..also my FI and I will not be going to the CH since we will being staying in the bridal suite and having the food brought up until getting introduced..

Re: Going around to tables?
We are definitley going around to every table. We've been to a ton of weddings recently and honestly, we felt so much better at the ones where the bride & groom came around. We went to a couple where we had to go up to the bride and groom at their table and we felt 1) that we were intruding on their alone time, and 2) that we were obligated to go up to them eventhough we really wanted to say hello. Clearly, it was a very strange mix of feelings. I think that when the bride & groom go around to the tables, it makes everyone feel welcome and more apart of the festivities as opposed to just sitting on the sidelines eating and dancing. I know it takes a lot of time but maybe it could be split throughout the party- a few tables at a time. You don't have to spend 10 minutes with each person- just a quick 'hi' and 'thank you for coming' gesture. Just my opinion...

Re: Going around to tables?
After reading everyone's posts, I am starting to think that the weddings I have been to, the bride and groom are rude !!! I was only going to go around to the older guests' tables, but I think you guys are right, the bride and groom should go to every table. I don't want anyone to think I am ungrateful that they are there. Thank you all !!!

I think it is really common courtesy for the parents to also go around. I don't think it matters whether you know the people or not. You are just welcoming them and thanking them for coming.

Re: Going around to tables?
even though we had a receiving line at the church and were at our cocktail hour, we still went around to every single table. we did it as soon as we finished our dinner, so a few people were still eating, so the conversations were short!! honestly, i had no intention of going to the tables, but my Aunt insisted on it. i think it is the proper thing to do and if you have a lot of the older crowd, i think they are offended if you don't.

We will not be able to go around during the cocktail hour b/c we will be taking pictures. We will walk around while our gusts are eating. We may not be able to get to all of the tables but we are going to try

Re: Going around to tables?
We did not attend our cocktail hour as we opted to stay in the bridal suite and get in some alone time.
At the reception I made sure I went around to EVERY table to say hi. I think it is rude not to do this.
It did not cut into my dancing time, I still had a good time and everyone was happy.

We are not having a huge list of guests, so perhaps we can see everyone at the cocktail hour.

Re: Going around to tables?
We had a receiving line at the church.
At the reception, DHs family is very small so we didn't have grooms family on one side and brides on the other. We put younger people on one side and older on the other. We went to our cocktail hour and saw many of our guests there (and didn't get to eat). We planned on walking around the reception to greet everyone but never made it all the way around. Luckily we started on the older side so we got through that side of the room. Then the DJ started playing some great music and we danced and had a great time the rest of the night. We did feel A LITTLE bad that we didn't get to the other side but not that bad. We had a GREAT time at the wedding and we wouldn't have had it any other way. If we had to go around to all the tables we wouldn't have had as much fun. Everyone commented after the wedding that it was so great to see us having such a great time. I honestly think that our being on the dance floor all night brought a lot more people out there.
Don't forget you only get this chance once so have fun!!! Your guests will understand!

We are going to see as many people as we can during the cocktail hour and we are still going to make quick stops at each table.

Re: Going around to tables?
We went around to all the tables, and it took a while to do it. Actually, we didn't get to all of the tables. because we just didn't have the time!!
Some people will just go on and on and you really need a 'way out' before you get in the trenches!!! LOL. Have something to say planned ahead of time, so you can make a speedy exit if someone (or some table) is taking up too much time.
One of my DH's friends from work started to go on and on about WORK!! Can you believe it?? I was so pissed. So I just said, excuse me very nicely and walked to the next table. My DH got the hint and soon followed!!
Some people just don't realize that this is such a special day for you. Maybe they're excited or haven't seen you in a while or just plain unaware, but if you're not careful, you can miss your own wedding because of them.
But visiting the tables, in my opinion, is really a social MUST.
Good luck!

Re: Going around to tables?
Guests are there for you I made it my business to go around to everyone during the cocktail hour, we ended up making another round at the reception (just kinda happened) but i dont think you need to do that. I have been to weddings though that the only time I spoke to the bride and groom was when I handed them our envelope, kinda wierd imho

Re: Going around to tables?
I learned from a great business woman that you go around at any event at the cocktail hour and say hi to everyone. This was you see 90% of the people and then at the reception you can just have fun. At my wedding though, I probably will go to some of the tables just to be safe
