Govenor ELIOT SPITZER ((discuss))

ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer faced a chorus of calls for his resignation Monday as he was engulfed by a sex scandal involving his alleged hiring of a high-priced prostitute last month.

At a news conference in Manhattan, a grim-faced Spitzer, with his wife, Silda Wall, by his side, issued a public apology for what he called a 'private matter,' defended his reformist agenda and hinted at leaving the Executive Mansion after only 14 months. But he hadn't stepped down as of late Monday night.




'I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and that violates my or any sense of right and wrong,' said the Democratic governor and father of three daughters. 'I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public whom I promised better.'

To be honest...I'm discussed by him and my heart goes out to his wife and family. During the news conference, that poor woman looked as if she was going to vomit all over him...which is what I would have done.

On the other hand...what exactly do you have to do to earn $5500 an hour as a hooker?!?!?!?!?!?

first of all i think prostitution should be legal. If your husband is going to cheat he is going to cheat - if he is going to a hooker he is going to go to a hooker regardless if it is legal or not.

But on the subject at hand - he is dirt. Cheaters are scum in my mind, but a man with the status he has achieved to throw it away because a sexual urge that in the end could of been controlled. He has now lost everything - family, respect, etc. The big issue is he spent at least 5k on a hooker and the reason why? he could because they get paid that well.

The reality is most men in power (namely men in politics, sports, entertainment, finance, etc) have the likelyhood to cheat more then your average joe - why? because they have the money to do so and the 'power' in their heads to deserve the right to. Shame on him.

I give his wife credit for standing their... looking like she was going to be throw up and all. I would not have showed up. Or I would have probably not been able to keep my mouth shut why he read the prepared speach.
The man has 3 daughters I think. What an example he set for sex and love.

Not sure what you do for 2 hours at $5,500- but the federal crime was making her travel to D.C for sex.

I think it might be part pressure of the job too. They have a lot riding on them (no pun inteded) and they need the stress reliever of someone to be a warm body...

Here is my only concern-

Will he actually be charged with a crime. The jail time for exporting or importing a person for paid sex is up to 20 years. Do you think he will get ANY time?

For some reason.. I don't see that happening

Neither do I - and that is sad. Personally, I really hope that his wife leaves him though, so that he faces the repercussions of his actions on some level. No one should have to be put through what he did to their family. Not to mention, it is so much worse than it would be if it was a normal family, because they are so in the spotlight. I'd be mortified and so disgusted. That poor woman, and his poor daughters. I don't think I would have been able to stand by him like she did

She is a strong woman for standing by him. I dont know if I could.

Most likely not which is fine I think. I read in the paper that most time the feds don't go after 'johns' in prosecution because it's a waste of resources. They just want to take down the whole ring, cut off the head so to speak. He'll have even better chances of escaping prosecution if she just resigns and goes away. The public just wants him out...there's no need to spend taxpayer money on his prosecution.

I think he is disgusting!! There is no excuse for what he did!! I felt so bad for his wife!! I told FH I would never have gone up there for support & if I did I would have punched him in the face on live TV!!

I agree he's disgusting. But honestly I think people give politicians too much credit. The people want them to be these extra-moral never do wrong superhumans and that's just not the reality. They have jobs just like you and I, there's are just more high profile so they should behave accordingly, but they don't always, they screw up. I'm not excusing his behavior at all, don't get me wrong, I just think we put too much faith in them.

In the end he's just another cheating man....his occupation just happens to be a governor.

This guy is just an idiot. FH was involved in politics for a while and i'm sad to say that 90% of these men are total scum. I don't know if it's a power trip but it's definitely a way of life for them with their conventions and 'out of town' trips. I've seen way too much to even be shocked by this but I do feel SO sorry for his wife. Although it must really suck for her, I am certain she knew this was going on or ..... most likely in Denial. I'm confidant that this wasn't a 'one time' thing and from experience with close friends....i've seen their wives simply turn their heads when REALLY suspicious things happen.

FH's closest friend was the Town Administrator and accidentally dialed his house while in the car with his 'girlfriend.' His wife heard the whole thing....yet still believed his claim that someone else was using his car........ It's just a way of life and nothing new. You can be disgusted in him but don't forget all the others who just haven't been caught.
