Great TASTING wedding cake

Ok, so I picked up our cake samples today and I wasn't at all impressed. You know how a lot of people (me) say they don't like bakery cake? I'm one of those people. I despise that fake 'buttercream'. Is it wrong for me to want a cake that's pretty AND tastes amazing?

Any bakery suggestions that won't break the bank?

Thanks!!

Re: Great TASTING wedding cake

Try The Cake Gallery in Bellmore..I got my DH's groom's cake from there and it was delish! I'm with you...I really don't like bakery cakes, and the one from the Cake Gallery blew me away!

The price on the groom's cake was reasonable, but I'm not 100% sure on a wedding cake!

GL!

I love dortoni in levittown. I get all my cakes and pastries from them. Wedding cake being ordered from there also. Fondant 4tiered with fresh berries and custard center, yummy! They have great prices esp when comparedto quality!

FH swears on dortoni's.

Personally, I feel costco and BJ's cakes are the best 'bakery' ones I've ever had

Re: Great TASTING wedding cake

Black Forest Bakery! I generally hate bakery cakes, but they are amazing. We did white cake with lemon and raspberry filling and buttercream, and it was the most delicious cake I've ever had. We were married at the Bourne Mansion, and the Black Forest cake was included in the package. So, we lucked out!

When FH and I went to Blackforest to design out cake, we didn't get to sample anything! I was really disappointed.

That's strange - we were offered a bunch of samples of different flavors. Did you go in knowing what you wanted and just tell them? We had no idea, so they gave us whatever we wanted to try.

Re: Great TASTING wedding cake

No we didn't know what we wanted. I thought we were going to be able to taste different things to decide, but the woman just sat there and waited for us to tell her what we wanted, although we had no idea what anything tasted like. She didn't even offer to have us taste anything. Very disappointed.

Re: Great TASTING wedding cake

I grew up in Levittown....down the block from Dortoni's bakery. I haven't met a pastry or cake from there that I didn't like. Probably the BEST bakery I've come across. My brother had his wedding cake done by them and not only did it taste amazing...but it was beautiful. I am getting married at flowerfield and using Audrey's because that's what they recommended. NOW, I live in bohemia and get all my baked pastries cakes from them. Love their stuff as well...including the cake we are getting...SOO you can't go wrong with either place in my opinion :) Goodluck. There are a lot of great bakeries out there!

I'm with you...I dislike bakery cakes, most of the ones I've had the cake has been dry and the icing too sweet. Not looking forward to this, this is one is FH check, but good luck with your search!
