veryy cool![]()
also-- we have both a MOH & a koumbara? or it just varies from bride to bride?
Thanks
We have a Koumbaro and a Best man.... so i guess it does vary from bride to bride
We decided to keep it very simple and also more traditional like they do in Greece...our MOH will be our koumbara and our Best man will be our koumbaro, and we're not having any bridesmaids or groomsmen. That was just our personal choice, though.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
hi girls..i am really happy to see this thread back! i am not greek but FH is and we are having the (beautiful!) Greek Orthodox ceremony. actually wondering if someone can help - i'm getting married at st. demetrios in astoria & i'm really worried about something. our wedding is @ 4 but there's also one at 3. the very very nice administrator at the church told me not to worry-the ceremony is only 40 minutes long-but i'm stilll worried:( i picture my guests and myself showing up at 4oclok or ten to, and everyone from the 3:00 wedding still inside takin pix and outside throwing rice etc. Help-should i be worried? i can't think of anything i can do about it anyway which makes it worse

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
I have a similar problem...i'm getting married at St. Catherine at 3pm and there's an event at 2 (I didn't ask if it's a wedding or baptism). I haven't been to a wedding at St. C or St D in such a long time, but others who have been there recently told me that the church tries its best to move people along as best they can. I'm expecting a bit of a delay, but I hope not more than half an hour. The best thing you can do is try not to worry too much about it...things have a way of working themselves out in the end! You and your guests may have to wait a bit, but don't let that ruin your day too much

Thank you so much...you are completely right. I'll try not to worry about it and i am following your advice - to just expect a bit of a delay but don't let it get to me...thank you.. Good luck to both of us!

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
I know this has been mentioned before but since all of our weddings are going to be here before you know it maybe we can get some ideas off of eachother. If you have purchased our koumbara/koumbaro or both their gifts what did you get them?
If you havent purchased what ideas do you have?

Today I paid for my membership at St. Demetrios/St. Catherine's...wanted to get an early start with the church stuff. We were told to go back about 2 or 3 months before the wedding to fill out the rest of the paperwork and set a date for the rehearsal...I'm very excited even though it's still 10 months away!Quick question about the rehearsal ladies...I've heard that you have to pay to have the rehearsal...is that true? And if so, then how much approximately are the churches charging?

For a koumbaro, you can also do a chain for the neck, bracelet, cufflinks, or anything else you think the koumbaro would like.
For a koumbara, you could do a jewelry set, or a fancy watch too.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
How much do you guys think you will spend on the gift? You see my cousin is our koumbara. Her husband isnt Greek Orthodox so as much as we consider him our koumbaro through association lol he really isnt doing anything. Would you guys get him something also or just spend a little more on her?
His name isnt on any of the paperwork we have to fill out or anything it is all her.
Any suggestions comments?

Anyway you can get them something as a couple?? Then you wouldnt have to worry bout who you spend more on.
If not, I dont think it matters if you spend a little more on her than him as long as its not TOO noticeable.
Not sure how much we are spending but FH tends to get carried away when it comes to buying people gifts. But his bro (our Koubaro) is always very generous to us so we have no prob reciprocating

From what I know, if the spouse isn't partaking in the ceremony, he/she shouldn't really get a gift...just my opinion and experience though...
