How large is everyone's guestlist?
About a half hour ago I was watching the Greek channel on cable and an ad for Latos, latos & DiPipo came on; I suddenly remembered that my FMIL baptized one of the Latos brothers, and I forgot to put them and their parents on the guestlist...so now my guestlist is 290.
This is before we've cut anyone from the list, but it's still pretty big for my taste, and it's unavoidable.
I dont want to have more than 250, but afraid thats not possible in a Greek wedding

Right now our e-party list is at 225 but we are hoping that only 180 show up
And YES, I heard about the benefit--FH and I might attend if he gets out of work early enough, but lately he has been getting home close to midnight, so I don't know
Awww I can't believe you know my cousins--did you know that their sister Eva is getting married also? She lives in Cyprus!!
AND, IFFFF we get married in Greece, because we are still debating, we will get married in Ioannina--we are both from there

Do Greek churches allow you throw rice outside the church? My ceremony is at St. Catherine in Astoria, and it's been a long time since I've been to a wedding there. A lot of the Greek weddings I've attended have been in Long Island and most have allowed rice.

Thanks. I went to a wedding about a year ago that was at a Greek church somewhere in Roslyn (or thereabouts), and they threw the little rice alternative pellets that are in the shape of hearts. It could have been personal preference on the bride's part or that church's policy...I'm just getting worried about the littlest things these days!

Hey girls!I got married last year, my ceremony was at St. D's in Merrick (supposed to be at st. nick's but they gave my date away 3 months before the wedding- nice huh) I used alternative rice but I had one cone which my mom insisted that she throw rice so she did and everyone esle had the alternative.
They didn't tell us that you can't use rice- I just didn't want to

Yiasou!!!
I just wanted to say hi to all of my fellow Greek Brides!!!![]()
How is everyones planning going? We just booked our e-party--it's on December 30th and we are having it at Ammos in the city--we are SO excited!!![]()
Did you guys have a priest present at the e-party to bless your ring? Also, do you NEED to have a koumbaro/a picked by the e-party??
OMG- I love ammos!!!!! it is really nice there!
We did have a priest come to our e-party to bless the rings- he stayed the whole time too. My DH is not greek and his family was amazed at the tradition.
I do not know about having to have the koumbari yet. I knew who mine were going to be b4 we were engaged so that was one thing I didn't need to think about

i had about 300 people invited (greece included) but since most of my family lives in greece and couldnt make it so we had only about 200 guests at the wedding.... nice size!

haha ive heard that one before--
I am 100% greek & so is the FH--- I have been to many greek Churches--I went to St. Nicks for afternoon 'greek school' growing up -- & it is beautiful-- both my brother and I were baptised there-- & my aunt had her wedding there a few years ago-- she did have a pre-license marriage class-- and I know even there there was a complaint about the $ but nothing major-- & her H is not greek!
I honestly do not like Aigia Markella because I feel as if they look at you funny-- as of looking down upon you--
St. Ds is beautiful been there once-- cant say too much--
I know that St. Paraskevi is very pretty with a big parkinglot-- I finished my 'greek school' there when I moved to long island--
I love the Papa however in the greek church in port Jeff-- my papou passed away almost 3 years ago and this Papa was amazing-- i dont remember His name however-- he is very americanized and explains everything thoroughly--
as of now I have no idea where I want my 'Church ceremony' to take place---
does anyone know if priests can travel to different churches?
thanks everyonee--(euxaristo poli)

You can ask a particular priest to do the service at a different church, but a priest from that church has to be there, too. Basically the guest priest has to ask permission from the Archdiocese to go to the other church. My neighbor's son from 2 doors down is a priest, and we grew up together (he's about 10 or so years older than me, but still all the kids in the neighborhood were close), and he's currently at a church in Bay Ridge, but I've asked him to do the service for my wedding at St. Catherine in Astoria, and he said it shouldn't be a problem.
