I've seen a few more new Greek brides on here lately, so I'm posting to re-activate the thread.
How is everyone's planning going?
And who will be the first Greek 08 bride? ZKAT22, will you be first in 08?
New brides, please introduce yourselves!
i think i am the first greek 08 bride....so excited for all of us!!!!
I just realize I went to St. D's (7th grade) with Elpida! Tell her Kathy says hello![]()
if you went to school with her..you went with me too. elpida and me were in the same grade

Were you in the same section? I was in her class. I was only there 7th grade.

Heria Psila (by Michalis Hatzigiannis) has a nice beat for an entrance song, and so does Sokolata (by Sarmpel)

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
Hey girls! Just a quick question on the band. We're actually meeting with Nikos Koutras tomorrow night to sign the contract. Has anyone heard him at a wedding?? I'm actually going by word of mouth on this one. Also, the female vocalist he sings with is not someone I'm crazy about. I was going to ask him if he would bring Anthi Aggelou instead. I figured I would throw it out to you girls first. Do you think he could switch, I'm not sure who Anthi is singing with now. I've seen her at a few weddings and she's been singing at Ammos in the city and Platos lately. IMO she's much better than the other girl.

It's been a long time since I visited this thread! But I just have a question for those girls who have ordered their invitations...
How do you write the church in the invitation?
For example:
Holy Trinity
Address
City, State
or
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
Address
City, State
I have a feeling the second is more proper...but I can't think straight..I feel dizzy from having to decide on the invites

I personally would do the 2nd one...it's a bit more formal, and this is the time to be formal.

If you can go to Astoria, you can visit the store GMV (Greek Music & Video Superstore...it's a few blocks away from St. D)...if you ask there, they'll be able to help you. The website for the store is http://www.greekmusic.com ... you can search what they have there, but I wouldn't pay for S&H if you can just go to Astoria to buy it.
Good luck!!
PS - The 1st dance is usually a Kalamatiano.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
I searched on the GMV website and found this cd that has songs all for the wedding:http://www.greekmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=7082%2D572&eq=&Tp=
Thebeautiful bride song is the 2nd track, but the 1st track is also very commonly played as the 1st song, followed by the 2nd track.
On the page for this cd, there's a button to click to hear the tracks, too.

There are a couple of websites that have instructions for learning the kalamatiano (search 'kalamatiano instructions'), but there's nothing quite like live instruction...it's not a hard dance to learn, it just needs practice

I'm glad you feel better about this.
This site has music to accompany the instructions
and
This site has slow-motion steps that show how the steps should be done
(Although my FH is Greek, he never learned this dance, so I've been searching for the instruction sites, too, to help him a bit)
Enjoy!!

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
I'm marrying someone who's greek and I'm not.I have tons of questions.
What are some of the most important traditions that I should incorporate in the wedding?
I know I should be asking his family about this but my FMIL is somewhat passive-aggressive. She always says that my FH and I should talk about what we want and it's up to us, but I know she's also mentioned to my FH that she feels like her culture 'is going to die with the first grandchild born' because I'm not Greek.
I went to Greece last year and I love the culture and wouldn't have any objections raising our kids as he was raised. I've even commited myself to learning Greek. I would love to incorporate any traditions during our wedding.
Do you think doing two ceremonies are insane, one Greek orthodox and one Catholic in one day?
Would I need a greek dj to play the more traditional Greek songs?
What's the best way to deal with my FMIL? just kidding...sort of!
All the input would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello, welcome and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
There are a lot of different Greek wedding traditions depending on what region you're from...where is your FH from?
Some of the more 'universal' traditions include:
1) On the day of the wedding, a male relative stuffs money into the bride's shoe as she puts it on
2) You write the names of the unmarried females on the soles of the bride's shoes, and at the end of the night, whoever's name has not been erased is supposed to be the next to marry
3) In the Greek-Orthodox ceremony, there is the traditional exchange of crowns (stefana)...have your FH or FMIL explain it, it's very beautiful in my opinion
4) the 1st Greek song at the Reception hall is traditionally a Kalamatiano (see posts above)
As for greek dj, there are many...look into Greekwave.com--they played at my nephew's baptism and were very good. Others are Europa Sounds, and Bravo Sounds. Here's a website with more links: Greek Wedding resources
As for having an orthodox and catholic mass on the same day...uh...that's gonna be one heck of a long day! The Orthodox mass is about an hour long. Perhaps you can have a Catholic priest at the orthodox ceremony and incorporate elements of both...have you discussed which Greek church you may be getting married at?
I'm sure you'll have more questions...that's what we're here for! Or you can FM any of us for more individualistic help, too.
Good luck!
